"A British-tinged neighborhood bistro on a busy stretch of Hillhurst in Los Feliz, this new spot from lifelong friends Natasha Price and Tatiana Ettensberger opened October 30 in the former Thai on Hillhurst, pairing a slim British-by-way-of-California menu with an unexpected natural wine list. Welsh rarebit leads into locally sourced persimmons with Stilton; fish and chips show up as battered sea bass with mint; bangers and mash come as a mustard seed–dotted whole bratwurst; pork cracklings nestle alongside kohlrabi; and a flaky-crusted meat pie is big enough to share, with desserts like Eton mess, sticky toffee pudding, and a jam-filled Bakewell tart. The kitchen is moving toward a whole-hog program led by chef de cuisine Sarah Durning, already folding half the animal into pork cracklings, coppa di testa, house sausages, and specials like pork chops. On the wine side, Ettensberger centers smaller producers from France, Italy, Spain, and California, balancing approachable picks with “rock and roll” bottles and guiding guests with personal stories about the makers. By day (starting November 14), the tight space doubles as a bakery-cafe turning out pastries and sausage rolls with coffee from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. or until sold out; by night, candles flicker on white tablecloths beneath warm wood and eclectic art for dinner Wednesday to Saturday from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The first week drew line-out-the-door crowds, but the aim is a welcoming neighborhood spot, with Resy reservations and room for walk-ins." - Rebecca Roland
