The Meteor Is Opening With Roman-Style Pizza, Coffee, Drinks, and Bikes - Eater Austin

"A new combination coffee shop, beer and wine bar, pizzeria, and bicycle shop is coming to 2110 South Congress Avenue. The Meteor will open in the Bouldin neighborhood sometime in August this year. The counter-service restaurant’s kitchen will serve Roman-style pizza, aka pizza al taglio, where the rectangular pies are sold by-the-ounce rather than by-the-slice. As for toppings, there will be traditional ones as well as more interesting ones, and yes, there are plans for a breakfast pie with eggs. Behind Meteor is Doug Zell, the co-founder of Chicago-based third wave coffee roasters Intelligentsia. Helming the kitchen is Andrew Werth, who had been the general manager of Fresa’s Chicken al Carbon on North Lamar as well as the manager of Boston bakery and cafe Sofra. The decision to serve this type of pizza was made because Meteor wanted to offer “nice, accessible food,” explained Zell, that works well for the warmer weather and isn’t “overly fussy.” Also on deck will be baked goods. For beer and wine, people will be encouraged to make their own selections at the giant coolers. Because of the permitting, they will be able to drink on the premises or bring drinks home. Wines will focus on natural, organic, and biodynamic options, all being offered for under $30. Canned beers will span local and imported breweries. The coffee menu will feature espressos and other drinks, all made with Intelligentsia beans of course. The indoor space will feature two entrances, views of all the prep and kitchen areas, as well as banquettes, stools, and tables for seating. There is a backyard outdoor area with picnic tables and string lights. There will be a smaller area dedicated to the bicycle shop, offering a curated selection of bikes, bike parts, and cycling clothings, from independent brands like Allied Cycle Works and Rapha. Meteor is meant to serve as a “collection of our favorite things,” said Zell. It will be open early in the morning through the late night. They’re open to expanding the shop into other parts of Austin and Texas." - Nadia Chaudhury
