"I reported that Haute Sweets Patisserie, the Lake Highlands bakery known for its beignets, candied bacon, and freshly-roasted coffee, has rallied after a difficult 2020 with the opening of a second location at 6959 Arapaho Road in Hillcrest Village. The bakery had struggled through COVID-19 and, on November 17, a vehicle lost control in the parking lot and crashed through the restaurant, resulting in chef-owner Tida Pichakron and two employees being hospitalized and neighbors and fans raising more than $23,000 for the victims. The new location includes savory beignets, chocolate lava cake, and other signature items, and Haute Sweets has teamed up with woman-owned ice cream shop Sweet Firely to sell frozen treats in flavors like bellini sorbet and peanut butter chocolate at the bakery." - Brittanie Shey
