"On St. Claude Avenue I came across a new “wine dive” opened this week by T. Cole Newton, the cocktail mastermind behind Twelve Mile Limit. Lining the left wall are three dark-leather retro booths with custom game-board tabletops displaying checkers and backgammon, and the middle booth even features a Settlers of Catan board. Newton translated the cozy, unpretentious ethos that made Twelve Mile Limit a neighborhood favorite into a wine-focused spot intended to avoid the “cult of exclusivity,” enlisting an all-star team (Holly Talmadge, J’Nai Williams, Toure Folkes, Xander Bilyk, Scott Hicks) and bar manager Luis Zepeda to build a carefully curated 17-wine menu across sparkling, rosé, white, red, and fortified categories. All wines are offered on draft, canned, boxed, or from corkless bottles that they plan to repurpose—Zepeda says he sought the best wines in sustainable packaging and wouldn’t serve anything he wouldn’t drink himself. For now Newton is encouraging patrons to bring outside food and the bar serves what he describes as “elevated stoner snacks,” including house-made pizza bagels, toaster pastries, and pressed sandwiches, with pop-ups planned for the future. The Domino is located at 3044 St. Claude Avenue and is open seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 2 a.m." - Paula Echevarria
