"I visited a new French Quarter establishment opened earlier this month at 213 East Bay Street in Charleston by public relations entrepreneur Michelle Van Jura, who built the spot because she wanted a sophisticated, grown-up place to go dancing to live music and launched it with a party of over 450 people. The multi-tiered space places the main dining room and a large bar on the first floor, a second-floor bar and lounge for live entertainment, and a third-floor rooftop bar that overlooks the harbor. Decor is a modern take on Art Deco — jewel-toned furniture, gilded mirrors, peacock wallpaper, and a few neon signs — intentionally designed to be a “sexy” place where people can come dressed up and feel confident. The lounge hosts acts like ’80s cover band the Breakfast Club, DJ MooMoo, and the Quentin Ravenel Experience, with plans for movie nights, comedy shows, and football watch parties. Chef Matthew Greene created an all-day menu that always includes caviar (for example, hash browns with caviar at breakfast and chicken bites with a ranch caviar dip at dinner); most evening dishes are meant to be shared — lamb lollipops, tuna crudo, and poutine — though there are also a smash burger, a crab cake sandwich, and a 34-ounce ribeye, and Saturdays and Sundays are brunch days. The fully stocked bar offers beer, wine, liquors, and signature drinks such as the Ain’t Misbehavin’ (a dirty martini with blue cheese-stuffed olives). The Habit is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to midnight." - Erin Perkins
