"If permissions are granted, North Las Vegas will be home next year to North 5th Brewing Co., proposed by the Payan family to convert their building at 60 Mayflower Ave. into the city’s first craft beer brewery. Planned features include a tasting room, a retail store selling branded goods and apparel, and the ability for customers to fill “growlers” to go or get “crowlers,” cans filled and sealed on site. The brewery is planned around a 10-barrel brewing system aimed at producing about 1,000 barrels a year, with a 1,100-square-foot brew pub seating roughly 85 guests. Brewing would occur during the work week and the tasting room would open afterward, with estimated hours of 4 to 11 p.m. on weekdays and 11 a.m. to midnight on weekends. The project—located five miles north of downtown—still must appear before the North Las Vegas Planning Commission, with neighborhood parking cited as a concern; the closest existing craft-beer rival mentioned is Banger Brewing on Fremont Street. If approved, construction is expected to begin next spring with an opening in early summer." - Bradley Martin
