"Climbing the steep back street above Odeceixe leads to this tiny 22-seat restaurant perched on a cliff, where the three-walled dining room opens onto an infinity pool and a sweeping hillside view crowned by the village windmill. Here, the tasting menu unfolds in seven “moments” that change with whatever local fishing boats and farmers bring in each day — perhaps goose barnacles in fragrant broth, sea bream cured under fig leaves, or sweet potato ravioli dusted with dried chanterelle mushrooms — and almost always includes housemade sourdough bread, peppery local olive oil, and playful peanut butter made from Algarve legumes shaped like a peanut. Chef Hugo Nascimento, who cooked for years alongside Lisbon luminary Vítor Sobral before settling here with his wife, Joana, has created a destination restaurant inside a converted cottage at Casas do Moinho, offering a calm, remote setting where high quality is in harmony with its surroundings and guests can feel filled with comfort and serenity." - Stacey Leasca
