"A steakhouse in Bessemer City just outside Charlotte became the scene of a devastating incident when a customer’s white Jeep smashed through an exterior wall and into the table where his family was dining. The crash killed his daughter, Katelyn Self, and his daughter-in-law, Amanda Self, and injured his wife, son, and 13-year-old granddaughter; staff reported people pinned beneath debris and the vehicle. Employees described the impact as sounding like a tornado, with chairs, tables, and cups flying, and recalled seeing a teenage girl unresponsive and a woman die in a manager’s arms. Regulars said the man had frequented the restaurant but had recently struggled with mental illness; he was arrested on two counts of first-degree murder, is due in court, and officials are seeking psychiatric evaluation. Local law enforcement and the sheriff’s office called it a tragic loss of life." - Clint Rainey
