"After switching to a new delivery partner to avoid paying premium fees to its long-time distributor, the U.K. arm of the global fast-food chain experienced a major logistics collapse when the new partner centralized dispatch in Rugby but failed to instruct drivers, leaving them idle for hours. The snafu spoiled millions of pounds worth of chicken and forced roughly 700 of about 900 U.K. outlets to close; many reopened locations are operating with a heavily reduced menu (one posted sign listed only lettuce, Pepsi, forks, and coleslaw). Early attempts at humor — including a tongue-in-cheek “FCK” social post and a joke about a chicken crossing the road — backfired on hungry customers, who were especially upset by a concurrent gravy shortage that removed a much-loved item. Company statements say they are “working as hard as we can to get this sorted out” and acknowledge customers’ frustration, but no firm timeline for full recovery has been given." - Clint Rainey
