"If Robert’s is the yardstick by which all Broadway bars should be measured, AJ’s has a lot of the same ingredients in a smaller space. Alan Jackson’s name is everywhere—on the door, hats, and almost everything else—but the celebrity status feels much more subdued than in other spots. AJ’s even manages to squeeze in some rustic old country charm. Two-stepping takes place in front of the little stage (mostly at night), and there’s an occasional steel guitar player or fiddler who joins the mix. The old “holler and a swaller” mostly disappeared from Broadway recently, but that tradition of drinking collectively with the musicians and crowd is still alive and well here." - Ann Walczak
