Worton Kitchen Garden - Review - Worton - Cotswolds - The Infatuation

"Worton Kitchen Garden should be prescribed for stressed-out, frazzled folk. Guinea fowl scurry along stone paths at this idyllic spot in Worton, and well-heeled diners sip spritzes while gazing out over their own personal, wildflower-strewn patch of farm. The dishes—hearty, seasonal, modern British—look like they’ve tumbled out of a country kitchen cookbook. While not everything hits (the grains in particular lack some flavour), you’ll leave feeling blissful. And maybe a bit tipsy, because their white rioja is very gluggable and complaining about new builds is thirsty work. The best seats are in the Beatrix Potter-looking glasshouse, where chef Simon can stroll straight out of the kitchen, glass in hand, prop himself up on your table and ask how everything's going. Order the crackling and your answer will be “extremely well”. photo credit: Worton Kitchen Garden photo credit: Worton Kitchen Garden photo credit: Sinéad Cranna photo credit: Worton Kitchen Garden Pause Unmute Food Rundown Globe Artichoke With Hollandaise This artichoke arrives whole and we can confirm that it’s quite flirty to have a ‘one for you, one for me’ situation happening over the tender petals. They’re good, but really they’re a vegetal vehicle for that thick, creamy hollandaise. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Crackling With Apple Sauce No notes. This is what pig skin perfection looks like—bubbly and blistered, with lashings of salt and a light airy texture that doesn’t trouble your gums. If you’re ordering for the table, get a few. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Loquat, Endive, Walnut And Stichelton Salad The kind of salad that would shake a caesar by the shoulders and say “grow up.” It’s bitter, and even the juicy loquat doesn’t offer much sweetness. We like the unapologetic boldness of that, though, especially paired with the blue cheese funk of the Stichelton. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Roast Cod, Beluga Lentils And Wild Garlic Perfectly cooked, flaky fish and a tangle of wild garlic is a very good thing. Like all the grains we tried, the lentils are a bit lacking, though. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Venison And Pork Sausages With Coco Beans A sausage large and meaty enough to make you blush. Sausages are made in-house using their own Worton Saddleback and it’s delicious. The beans, however, could use more seasoning. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Sri Lankan Crown Prince Curry Gently spiced and comforting, this is the kind of curry you want to curl up with on a cold night. The crown prince squash is nutty and sweet. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
