"Hankook Taqueria is a divey little lunch place among the warehouses and defunct office buildings off Collier Road. Their Mexican-Korean tacos, bowls, and burritos gather together whatever ingredients sitting in cafeteria-style heated tubs, like beef bulgogi and Korean BBQ pulled pork. Everything on the menu clocks in under $12—including the unmissable sesame fries—and orders are usually ready before you even have time to select a creaky wooden booth. Food Rundown Firedog This should really be called the kimchi dog because there’s enough of the fermented slaw on top to warrant a fork. The all-beef dog is thick and juicy. If only Hankook Taqueria had more hot dog options (this is the only one). It’s that good. photo credit: Juli Horsford Bibim-bop This wouldn’t make a top ten list of bibim-bap in the city, but for $12 you get such a massive helping that the styrofoam container barely closes. And the red pepper sauce is spicy enough to make your nose run. Calamari Taco You can get the tacos with any protein, but the squid version is our favorite—we haven't seen any other place slapping crispy, fried rings of calamari inside a flour tortilla. It has all the usual taco toppings (crisp lettuce, onions, cilantro), and there's a sweet chili sauce that was basically born to go with calamari. Sesame Fries These come tossed in sesame oil and then topped with red pepper flakes and a zesty seasoning. They’re $4.50 and worth every penny. You’ll use up every bit of the curry ketchup that comes on the side. photo credit: Amy Sinclair photo credit: Cameren Rogers photo credit: Cameren Rogers photo credit: Cameren Rogers Pause Unmute" - Juli Horsford
