Next Door at Wegmans is not your typical grocery store sushi - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"To get to Next Door, you have to first enter Wegmans, the Astor Place outpost of the Rochester-born grocery store. But you’re not destined for boxed mac and cheese, or a visit to the food court tonight. Instead, veer to the left and through the heavy double-doors to Next Door. At this full-service restaurant, you’ll find some very good raw fish and the kind of easy “we’re all family here” charm that makes people tailgate in front of every Wegmans grand opening. photo credit: Gentl & Hyers photo credit: Nico Schinco photo credit: Nico Schinco Pause Unmute The sprawling room channels big-budget NYC dining—velvet booths, fake trees—but with some Western New York sensibilities. The music is a lot lower, the lights are bright enough to see the menu. This is the only Wegmans that flies its seafood in from the Toyosu Fish Market, and loyalists will be happy to know the slices of sashimi here are fat, glossy, and delicious, lounging in bowls of craft ice. Meats off the robata grill complement the surf with some well-charred turf, and it’s easy to forget that you’re eating in a grocery store. Except that when you stumble out after drinking a cocktail made with silken tofu, and maybe feel compelled to do a little shopping." - Willa Moore
