Moya - Review - Soma - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"We’ve never ordered something we didn’t end up loving at Moya. The snug Ethiopian spot on the corner of Minna and 8th Streets in SoMa does both vegetarian and meat dishes equally well, and the food, coupled with a relaxed ambiance, is perfect for casual dinners and in-and-out lunches. What makes this counter-service spot stand out are the depth of spices and layers of flavor. We love the buttery kitfo with the tangy housemade cheese, smoothly rich shuro, and berbere-kissed misir wot. And you’ll never go wrong with the onion-packed doro tibs. Whether it’s for lunch or dinner, just get here. photo credit: Melissa Zink Food Rundown photo credit: Melissa Zink Kitfo The beef tartare is meaty, melt-in-your mouth, and even better when you sprinkle the side of fragrant mitmita all over it. Combine it with the tangy homemade cheese, and you get maximum decadence. This kitfo can be slightly seared upon request. photo credit: Melissa Zink Doro Tibs Their sautéed chicken isn’t as saucy as most renditions we’ve had. That said, it’s still onion-packed, mildly spicy, and filled with flavor. You’ll never go wrong ordering this. photo credit: Melissa Zink Vegetarian Sampler This highlights Moya’s standout dishes and is the best of all meat-free worlds. We pledge allegiance to the misir wot—these red lentils come super thick and deeply spiced. Shuro Described in one word: phenomenal. This ground chickpea stew is velvety and rich. You need this." - Lani Conway
