"Once upon a time (the early 2000s), Fab’s was a bucket list stop for LA hot dog enthusiasts looking to sample regional styles from across the country. Those days are gone. After a location change and a noticeable decline in quality, Fab’s has become a generic fast food spot where teenagers slap together hot dogs you could probably make at home with the lights off. The famous “Ripper” (a New Jersey specialty) has an odd muskiness, and the bacon on the namesake Fab’s dog is as dry and brittle as a puppy treat. The menu still covers a lot of geographic ground—from Chicago to Coney Island to Carolina —but that’s about where the appeal ends.
