"Ichijiku has some of the freshest and most affordable sushi in Houston’s Chinatown. It's part of the Bellaire Street Food complex, but the elegant interior makes it feel more like a high-end omakase counter than a strip mall joint. Up front, a pristine fish box showcases jewel-toned cuts of kinmedai, hamachi belly, and whatever else is in season. All the classics are represented and done well, from a comforting clam soup to spicy tuna crispy rice, while the sashimi is beautifully sliced and the sushi rice is perfectly seasoned. It's like the best possible version of your typical neighborhood sushi spot. You could order piece by piece while chatting with the chefs, or opt for the shockingly affordable omakase, which starts at $30 for five pieces of sushi and appetizers.
