"There’s a daytime party happening on an otherwise boring stretch of First Avenue in Burien. Nestled among the generic strip malls is Kikey’s, a bustling Mexican brunch restaurant with luchador masks, balloons, and Bad Bunny songs setting the mood. There’s often a long wait for a table on weekends, particularly since the spot is a draw for large groups and families. Arrive before 11am to minimize a wait, and know a little patience pays off for dishes like their excellent dulce de leche pancakes and chilaquiles. The exhaustive menu nails the basics with plenty of flair and generous portions, and even with a couple of minor misses, it’s easy to see why the spot is so popular. Food Rundown photo credit: Gabe Guarente Breakfast Burrito This is one of the most neatly packed breakfast burritos we’ve come across, with a solid rice-to-other-stuff ratio and a lightly toasted tortilla. The cheese is gooey and goes well with spicy chorizo, while the creamy side sauce is a winner (ask for two portions). It comes with a side of oily and bland potatoes that can be ignored, though. photo credit: Gabe Guarente Chilaquiles Everything you’d want in a comforting dish after a rowdy Saturday night (or even one where all you did was watch eight seasons of Taskmaster). The sauce has a nice kick and the chips maintain their crunch well—we just wish there were a little more of them layered underneath. Get the juicy carnitas as an add-on. Dulce De Leche Pancakes Non-negotiable order, even if you’re not a sweet breakfast person. The pancakes are perfectly soft with crispy edges, and the caramel sauce is delicate and ladled on like a work of art. Every other pancake in Seattle is officially on notice. Sunrise Mimosa Yep, it looks like a sunrise and tastes just as refreshing (the pineapple version, especially). For those who really want to make it a boozy brunch, there’s also a licua-mimosa—a whole bottle of bubbly turned upside down in a blender with your choice of juice. Champurrado Latte Those who want a little chocolate flavor in their coffee drink may want to give this a shot. It’s creamy, but not too heavy or overwhelmingly sweet." - Gabe Guarente
