"Gayle’s Broadway Rose is the generic, off-brand version of Ellen’s Stardust Diner, and that’s not an entirely bad thing. Both Midtown restaurants offer entertainment in the form of servers who break out in song, but this one won’t make you want to sequester yourself in a silent room after. video credit: Bryan Kim In a ballroom-like space in the bottom of a Times Square hotel, Gayle’s is a more subdued affair, with decent-enough American food, compliments of local chain Friedman’s. While you enjoy your gluten-free melt or Asian chicken salad with slightly too much dressing, servers work the room, performing Broadway classics, with the occasional pop song tossed in. The place is definitely a gimmick, but if you know every word to “Cell Block Tango” and don’t want to deal with the chaos of Ellen’s, you’ll have a nice time. Food Rundown Spinach Artichoke Dip Nearly everything they serve here is gluten-free, including this rather large bowl of spinach artichoke dip with the consistency of nacho cheese. Not a bad starter, although it is extremely salty. Asian Chicken Salad 2.0 A generic mound of cabbage, peanuts, green beans, and hoisin dressing. Nothing groundbreaking, but nice to pick at as you catch a performance of “The Wizard and I.” Buttermilk Fried Chicken Sandwich The best move is to get some sort of burger or sandwich, like this one with perfectly respectable gluten-free fried chicken." - Bryan Kim
