"Rhode Island has loads of great pizza, but the best Detroit-style slices are served out of an old mill building in Pawtucket. A Guy & His Pie sells thick, bouncy, crunchy-edged pizzas that’ll transport you from lil’ Rhody to Motown in a bite. The titular Guy—a wiry, tall, and friendly former drummer— slings some salads and garlic bread, too. But a slice his pie is filling and really the whole point of why you’re here. Each slice has an inch-high layer of frisco-like baked cheese around the edges. There aren’t any doughy or carbonized bits, which is tricky to nail in a pie that cooks fast and hot. And while the simple pepperoni with red sauce racing stripes is a favorite, we also dig the Supreme, which comes loaded with fennel-y sausage crumbles, peppers, little crispy cups of ‘roni, caramelized onions, and a dusting of parm. Every bite has bright acidity from the tomato sauce and sweetness from the caramelized onions. It nails the nostalgia of a frozen Supreme pizza of childhood, but fresher and more complex." - Grace Kelly
