"When Luiz de Souza arrived in London in the 1980s, Brazilian food was almost impossible to come by. That it’s now widespread has plenty to do with de Souza, who opened Brazilian Touch Cafe on Oxford Street in the mid-1990s. Homesick Brazilians still flock to Luiz’s restaurant, which has moved from Oxford Street to a basement below a bar on nearby Hanway Street in Fitzrovia. Feijão Do Luis (Portuguese for Luis’ beans) has long been a central London community point, hosting live music and screening big Brazilian football matches, but the food is what most come for. Big plates of beef ribs, chicken parmigiana, and stroganoff alongside de Souza’s inimitable hospitality. The feijoada, a hearty black bean stew, is as good as any you’ll find in the city, with plenty of pork ribs and smoky sausage. Served with buttery farofa with caramelised onion, it makes for a nap-inducing lunch. photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat photo credit: Koray Firat" - Tomé Morrissy-Swan
