Harris' Restaurant - Review - Nob Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"The massive hunks of meat on display in the windows at Harris’ let you know this place takes their beef seriously. The Nob Hill steakhouse is an old-school white tablecloth spot where servers wear ties and vests, regulars have been coming in for 40 years and counting, and hunks of warm epi bread are periodically dropped on your plate from a wicker basket. You’re probably here to eat steak, and it's excellent. There are eight classic, mostly dry-aged options, plus some wagyu and prime rib, but we like the juicy New York steak the most—it’s best enjoyed from one of the big leather banquettes with a martini in hand. Meat aside, you’re also coming to Harris’ to soak in the nightly live jazz, toast to a big life event, and sit in a comfy booth that’s older than your refrigerator. photo credit: Michelle Min photo credit: Michelle Min Food Rundown Dungeness Crab Cakes An excellent non-beef starter—the edges stay golden brown and crispy in the slightly sweet beurre blanc. The Harris Steak This bone-in New York steak is a Very Good Steak. It’s got your requisite criss-cross grill marks and an even char, and is finished off with a pat of butter that you should spread around like a Zamboni. Baked Potato This baked potato is garnished tableside with butter, sour cream, and chives, but it somehow manages to taste like nothing. If the cheesy scalloped potatoes are the “evening’s potatoes,” get those instead—they’re a much more successful version of a side potato. Harris’ Cheesecake A genuinely delightful slice of cheesecake, and the silkiest we’ve had in a long time. Finish with this, or take some to go if you’re full of beef." - Julia Chen
