Dayu - Review - Finsbury Park - London - The Infatuation

"Finsbury Park, God love it, is a total mess. So when a restaurant as welcoming as Dayu comes along, we can’t help but notice it. This Hong Kong cafe calls itself an ‘Asian fusion’ restaurant, meaning that there are things like satay sauce and ramen on the menu, as well as homemade dim sum that’s worth carving out an hour for. You’ll probably be cajoled into an extra item or an special creation by Dayu’s maternal owner, like deep-fried mustard prawns. More likely than not, it will be a good decision. The spicy sauce the wontons come in is more umami-ish than anything with chilli heat and the har gau could be more delicately wrapped, but both fillings are juicy and well-seasoned. Get a few variations of dumplings and enjoy them to the soothing soundtrack of waiting room music. It’s a world away from the interchange outside. Food Rundown Har Gau The minced prawn filling inside of these har gau is lovely, even if the wrappers are a bit thick and claggy in places. photo credit: Jake Missing Siu Mai Moist, salty, and very plump—these siu mai are an easy decision. Make sure to ask for some chilli oil on the side. photo credit: Jake Missing Wontons In Spicy Sauce There’s plenty to love about these wontons and the filling is perfectly steamed with some nice flecks of ginger going on. The sauce is more like a black bean-ish gravy with a background spice that slowly grows." - Jake Missing
