Dyckman Dogs

"Diagonally across from the Dyckman Street station, this spot offers about a half-a-dozen hot dogs with serious personality. The thin beef dogs are couched in thick, buttery brioche buns, then topped with an abundance of sauce and crunch. The crunchiest of all is the Venezuelan Dog, sprinkled with potato sticks from sister restaurant Cachapas y Mas, next door. But our favorite is the Dominican Dog, which has a thicker longaniza sausage. For optimum hot dog enjoyment, they also offer beer and other “adult beverages,” like a margarita on-tap ($11, or 32 oz for $16). Sit inside on a keg-turned-barstool, where you can bask in the mellow country soundtrack, or on a picnic bench outside, overlooking the busy intersection. The restaurant is open until midnight during the week, and 1am on weekends. Food Rundown Venezuelan Dog This is a seriously loaded hot dog. Besides the crispy potato sticks, there’s fresh julienned cabbage, tomato, onion, and cheese, as well as a green mayo made in-house with cilantro, parsley, onions, and leeks. It all (mostly) stays in place, but we’d be wary of taking this to go. photo credit: Sonal Shah Dyckman Dog We like the juicy corn, bacon, and pink sauce on this dog. But unless you simply must have pig on beef, go for the Dominican Dog. Dominican Dog The longaniza sausage on this has a little more flavor than the usual beef dog, and the pink sauce, pickled onions, and strip of deep-fried cheese add just enough pizazz to make this an easy-to-eat, yet delicious hot dog." - Sonal Shah
