"In Barcelona, where beachfront takeout options mostly start with "Burger’ and end in ‘King,” it was high time for a spot serving a top-notch beach picnic to open. Enter a new counter-service focaccia sandwich joint by the team behind pizzeria Balmesina—and it’s only four blocks from Barceloneta beach. It’s a supremely low-maintenance alternative to assembling a picnic in the market, where a gleaming steel-and-glass counter heaves with prosciutto, bresaola, speck, and salami, and a short menu scrawled on a whiteboard. There are natural wines in the fridge and Bavarian Weihenstephan beer on tap. The Mortazza—with mortadella, burrata, tomato, and pistachio pesto—is a gently elevated classic, while the Baita (speck, mozzarella, creamed mushroom with ricotta) comes with the cured meat sliced fresh right in front of you.
