It looks delicate, but take a bite, and you’ll be rewarded with a pleasantly dense, almost bready chew, and an overwhelmingly buttery flavor. Don’t skip the pain au chocolat, the reason many Parisians traverse the city to line up at this pocket-sized bakery near Bastille. The dark, almost smoky chocolate melts pleasantly on the tongue, and the bitterness contrasts nicely with the sweetness of the dough.
