"Little Mama’s feels unmistakably family-run. The colorful Round Rock restaurant has only a few small tables inside, and there’s a good chance you’ll see the owner’s kids in the corner doing homework. The core menu features home-style versions of Filipino classics like adobo, pancit, and palabok, but you’ll usually find sisig, oxtail kare kare, and whole fried tilapia written on a chalkboard list of daily specials. Food can take a while to come out—so call ahead if you’re in a hurry—but once it arrives in an overfilled Styrofoam container, all is forgiven. Food Rundown Lechon Kawali Little Mama’s lechon kawali is a heaping pound of pork belly nuggets that have been seasoned and deep-fried until they’re intensely crispy. They’re served with a classic side of livery Mang Tomas dipping sauce and spicy vinegar to add a bit of kick to each bite. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary Filipino BBQ These tender charcoal-grilled pork skewers are juicy, slightly smoky, and charred around the edges. The housemade peanut barbecue sauce they’re brushed with is pretty salty, but it’s nothing that a few generous forkfuls of rice can’t save. There’s also a version with chicken, if your table’s already too full of fried and stewed pork. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary
