"Like people, not all pies are made equally, and The Hero’s was brought up buttery. Ascending to this grand Maida Vale pub’s dining room and missing out on the duck pie is a mug’s move. It arrives in a cast iron dish, glowing golden, perfectly singed, with a potato top. There’s some elegant fork work on top, like mashed potato has gone to prom, and underneath is a confit duck mixture so rich, so salty, and so delicious that you may well keel over before you finish it." - jake missing
