Table & Main sets a benchmark for seasonal Southern cuisine - Review - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"Describing Table & Main is like a buzzword seek and find. Farmhouse chic. Locally sourced. Seasonal menu. Southern comfort food. All of those descriptors are accurate, if over-used. So we’ll try explaining it another way. Eating dinner at this Roswell restaurant is like a welcomed hug when you only expected a handshake. It’s oozing with warm hospitality and a reassurance that no matter what’s on the menu, you're in good hands. If it feels like you’re pulling up to a house owned by someone named Mee-maw, it’s likely because the restaurant is in a 100-year-old building that was at one point someone’s actual house. Inside feels just the same. The dining room has big windows and exposed wooden beams. The dishes look like heirloom porcelain plates that’ll hold food you’ll dream about later. A half bird with a crackly, fried coating arrives like a true-blue slice of Southern cooking. A pot roast is slow-cooked so long it falls apart as soon as you point your fork in its direction. And a North Georgia catfish, comes blackened, bathed in a smoky tomato-based gravy , and paired with savory collards. Go on Wednesdays for their prime rib, which usually sells out. Or start your week off right on Monday nights with their three-course dinners. Food Rundown Fancy Cornbread These six mini cornbread nuggets are so pillowy we half-expect them to float. They’re served in a cast iron skillet with a ramekin of honey butter on the side. It’s the perfect way to start a meal here. photo credit: Randi Curling T&M Pot Roast The beef is cooked so perfectly, it could be chewing optional. It comes with cabbage and potatoes in a shallow bowl filled with beefy juices. And lucky you, a slice of toasted sourdough is there to make sure none of that savory juice goes to waste. Order this. photo credit: Randi Curling Fried Chicken Get this, too. The crunch when you take a bite of this fried half bird from Springer Mountain Farms is exactly the sound you want to hear. You get to choose your side, and we always go with the creamy mac and cheese served in a skillet and broiled slightly for a nice char—it just makes sense. photo credit: Randi Curling Blackened North GA Catfish It's not always on the menu, but this grilled catfish is another winner. It's flaky, and the smoky tomato-based gravy works well with the fish and the side of collards that soaks it up. photo credit: Randi Curling T&M Burger The burger arrives with two beef patties dripping in pimento cheese and a bacon-onion jam. And we’d gather the only way this burger could be fresher is if you ate it at the Stone Mountain Cattle Co. (the farm that the beef comes from.) This is messy and will dirty up your white napkin nicely. photo credit: Randi Curling" - Juli Horsford
