"If you don’t enjoy a trip to Terry’s Cafe, you are either very serious about your cholesterol or need more hugs. The Great Suffolk Street stalwart perfectly straddles the space between a comforting British caff, an Instagram-ready, Britannia-strewn breakfast spot for tourists, and somewhere local Borough office workers can get a decent Monmouth Coffee. Mornings are soundtracked by guys ribbing each other about their hazelnut syrup and soy milk coffee orders, shouts of ‘cushty?’ from old-timers, and American accents planning out their big red bus trips. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Order The Blowout—the biggest of the fry-ups—because the addition of crispy, well-seasoned chunky chips makes it worth it. It’s £13 and you won’t find many plates of food in London as big as this, for that price. But it’s not just big: the bacon is thick and smoky, the sausage perfectly blistered and meaty, and the eggs are the same bright orange as the orange and turmeric juice. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch You’ll leave with a smile on your face courtesy of the nostalgic little touches—a rusted OXO tin with (free!) sauce packets stuffed in it, the same framed fish that your grandparents had in their living room, and the kind of salt shakers where it’s impossible to control the pour, but who cares because you’re already having five rashers of bacon for breakfast. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Sinéad Cranna
