Pristine nigiri is the focus at Sushi Hakko - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Otoro-obsessed Cow Hollow residents are lucky to have Sushi Hakko. The Japanese omakase spot is a destination for birthdays, double-digit anniversaries, and corporate card meals to impress clients who just took a lie-flat to Tokyo. Sit at the eight-seat chef’s counter for the best view and access to a special type of pickled ginger only served at the bar. It’s also where you’ll dig into a $210 menu that consists mostly of pristine nigiri, plus small plates like toro tartare with caviar and uni or caramelized miso cod. And despite the price tag and meticulously plated fish and rice, this place is laidback enough so you can talk at a normal volume without feeling like you’re about to get sent to the principal’s office. Food Rundown Omakase Your only option. Bigger groups can sit at the tables, but our favorite experience goes down at the counter, where you get a full view of the chef slicing and seasoning everything. The excellent nigiri rotate depending on what’s in season. And between all of the one-biters, you also get dishes like miso cod, crab soup, and simmered mushroom with truffle to round out the meal." - Julia Chen
