"Corinthia London, with grand steps and huge Union Jack waving outside, is an Embankment hotel that’s very London. The interiors are tasteful and it feels fancy and proper, with huge dried flower arrangements and spaced-out tables that encourage unreserved chit-chat. Afternoon tea here is hosted in the Crystal Moon Lounge—you’ll understand the name once you see the gargantuan crystal chandelier hanging in the middle of the room. It’s a serene space where piano notes caress your ear and a dessert trolly is always within reach. Everything is taken seriously, with a bespoke tea menu of original blends where they mix things like earl grey, darjeeling, and assam all into one—which are so good we wish we could get tea bags to take home. Sandwiches with things like turkey and pineapple jam, or egg mayonnaise with pink peppercorn are excellent (and are topped up on demand). And perfectly glazed scones arrive warm, in their own special box, with creative jams like strawberry and elderflower. The dessert trolley has an array of artfully designed sweet treats from things like fig tarts, to a slice of marble cake and a lemon drizzle cookie—all of which taste as good as they look. Book for a birthday, special occasion, or to formally introduce someone to afternoon tea—that’s what Corinthia does best." - Rianne Shlebak
