Luna Wine Bar - Review - Bermondsey - London - The Infatuation

"For picky plates of British food and a glass of wine, we like Luna, a sleek, uncomplicated Bermondsey spot. It sits on the same street as bigger sister restaurant, Legare, and feels like the less-sure-of-itself, younger sibling. Upstairs never quite livens up when we’ve been, so grab a seat downstairs where some of the clatter and chat of the kitchen drifts into the dining room, and those at the end of work days sip glasses of Bodega Bodega Blanco and throw back slivers of buttery iberico. The thrumming playlist, chic unfinished plaster walls, and flickering candles make Luna an ideal pick for dates that want to play it safe for a first meet-up. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Dishes are a familiar, seasonal mix of things like zesty butter beans and perfectly fine lamb cutlets. There are some misses, like the burnt Welsh rarebit and overly salted chocolate éclair. But stick to a few glasses of wine, some charcuterie, and the excellent chips with Old Bay seasoning, and Luna will see you right. RESERVE A TABLE Food Rundown Chips W/ Old Bay Seasoning These matchstick fries are by far the best thing on the menu. And we’d like a miniature version of this warming Old Bay seasoning to carry around in our bag. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Ibérico Salchichón A plate of very good meat isn’t great cooking, but it is great procuring. And we rate that skill highly. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Butter Beans, Grilled Hen Of The Woods & Zhoug Some of the most plump butter beans you’ve ever seen get tossed sexily with zhoug and mushrooms. It’s very pretty and pleasant. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Welsh Rarebit We love the idea of mini rarebit, but our piece of toast was burnt on the bottom so everything tasted bitter. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Lamb Cutlets, Greek Yoghurt, Charred Onion The lamb has a nice char, it’s juicy, and there’s a good amount of sticky charred onions. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna Coffee & Tonka Bean Éclair Flavour-wise, rich coffee and silky tonka bean are a perfect pairing, and the exact kind of grown-up duo we want to eat before toddling off to bed. The choux pastry is good too. But there’s too much flaky salt on top. photo credit: Sinéad Cranna" - Sinéad Cranna
