"In certain circles - like ones with people who can’t go on vacation for fear their sourdough starter might die - Tartine is legendary. What started as a small bakery with long lines in San Francisco has since spawned multiple locations in SF, South Korea, and now Los Angeles. It’s a huge complex in the Row with an order-at-the-counter market area, an all-day restaurant called Tartine Bianco, and Alameda Supper Club, a slightly more upscale Italian dinner spot. The market has excellent grab-and-go sandwiches (the tuna salad is messy but fantastic), more pastries than you’d imagine, and a coffee and Soft Serve window outside." - Jess Basser Sanders
