The $5 Happy Hour is Bubu's main draw - Review - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"If there’s a better sushi Happy Hour in SF than Bubu, we have yet to find it. This Lower Pacific Heights spot serves drinks, sashimi, handrolls, and karaage for $5 apiece daily. That means you (and all the other temaki enthusiasts who flock here) can fill up for less than it costs to take a single yoga class nearby. Among the 20-plus options on the menu, prioritize the salty-sweet “bubus”—crispy rice with tuna, hamachi, or salmon and a drizzle of spicy mayo. Just know tables fill up, so it’s best to get here right when they open. Food Rundown Spicy Tuna Bubu Any of the eponymous bubus are excellent—we’re suckers for crispy rice with anything, and these one-biters are no exception. PlayMute video credit: Taylor Gomez Albacore Sashimi For $5, this fish absolutely gets the job done. Sure, there’s better quality fish elsewhere in the city, but just to reiterate—it’s $5. photo credit: Julia Chen Chicken Karaage If you want to round out the fish-forward order with, well, not fish, order this. You can’t go wrong with fried chicken dunked in mayo. Negi Toro Handroll The seaweed loses its crispiness by the time these reach your table, but this is one of the more filling options on the Happy Hour menu. Note the two-handroll max.
