"Batesy’s BBQ is a solid, stick-to-your ribs lunch option near the beach in Arverne. The small dining room—where colorful fairy lights dangle from the ceiling—is a pleasant-enough place to hang out and sip a frozen Henny Colada, but don’t discount the possibility of a cute little picnic situation. Their $40 Beach Box special (five meats, three sides) is a great value that could easily feed a few carnivores. The ribs won’t do you wrong, though the brisket is underseasoned, and we wish the house honey-bourbon barbecue sauce had a bit more of an acidic punch. Batesy’s BBQ is right next door to Boardwalk Pizza, in case you have competing cravings among your group. photo credit: Molly Fitzpatrick Food Rundown 1/2 Rack Ribs These St. Louis-style ribs are very tender and well-seasoned. Order them—or any other meat, sandwich, or wings—at lunchtime and you’ll get half off a side. Speaking of sides… Mac And Cheese Our favorite side here. It’s creamy and Stouffer’s adjacent (in this house, that’s a high compliment), with curly cavatappi noodles and crispy breadcrumbs on top. Cornbread The most important thing to know about this cornbread, other than that you should order it, is that it comes grilled, crisp, and buttery." - Molly Fitzpatrick
