"Pa amb tomàquet is to Catalonia what fresh-baked baguette is to France. A dish so ubiquitous, it’s the star of every Catalan breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as in sandwiches, as a side dish, or used to mop up extra sauce. The one at Vila Viniteca—famously Barcelona’s best wine merchant, and also a gourmet deli where you can catch a buzz off some truly great wine while snacking on cheese and cold cuts—isn’t based on the classic crispy coca bread. Instead, it’s made with chunky sourdough, smothered in fresh tomato, and drenched in premium olive oil. Pop an anchovy on top to turn it into a full, balanced meal, and don’t forget to buy your wine and fancy canned fish gifts on the way out. photo credit: Sara Larsson photo credit: Sara Larsson photo credit: Sara Larsson Pause Unmute" - Isabelle Kliger
