"Chez Eugène shouldn’t be anything to write home about. It’s in Montmartre’s most touristy real estate, overlooking Place du Tertre, where street artists sketch quick caricatures of passersby. We brave through it for their slight twists on brasserie food and impressive wine list. Classics like French onion soup and a behemoth steak frites are present and accounted for, as is le cheeseburger, a now omnipresent offering at bistros city-wide. Hone in on their more innovative dishes, like an egg-mayo seasoned with grape must, and if you’re not ordering wine, you’re in the wrong place. The list leans natural, hews heavily to the northern Rhône, and changes weekly to introduce gems at all price points. Since the dining room is a little dreary, sit on the covered outdoor terrace instead and watch Montmartre be Montmartre." - Emily Monaco
