Freshito

"You can make a meal whatever you want at Freshito. The Excelsior spot’s wide-ranging menu means that stopping off just for a navy blue scoop of bubblegum ice cream is as easy as cobbling together a three (or more)-course meal with elote, a sandwich, and fresas con crema. While nothing is mindblowing, you’ll leave here satisfied. After school lets out and on weekends you’ll likely find kids pressing their faces against the ice cream display case and whole families hovering over the air hockey table, but there’s always a free seat. Important to note that Freshito now accepts cards after years of being cash-only. Food Rundown photo credit: Monica Lo Tosti Elote We prefer this version of the elote over the esquite—the added layer of tortilla chips is simple but effective. Prioritize this over anything else. photo credit: Patrick Wong Turkey And Ham Panini We wouldn’t come here just for this sandwich, but it ticks the right boxes—loaded with mayonnaise and cheese, but they don’t overpower the neat stack of meat. photo credit: Monica Lo Fresas Con Crema A generous amount of sliced strawberries suspended in a sour cream and cream mixture. A small size is easily shareable with another person, but we prefer keeping it to ourselves. photo credit: Monica Lo Ice Cream There is better ice cream in the city, but despite the iciness, any of the huge scoops are still enjoyable." - Patrick Wong
