"Past the artisan candy and Scandinavian furniture on Bay Street is Pippal, a fancy Indian spot by the Rooh team. It’s our go-to in Emeryville for a group birthday dinner or a date night that requires changing out of sweats that may have a hole in the leg. The indoor-outdoor dining room has a huge rose pink chandelier and plush booths where people do celebratory toasts with brightly colored cocktails named after Indian landmarks. But the space doesn’t upstage the food. Chili garlic naan is fluffy and has a kick, the chicken momos are rotund and juicy, and we’d willingly drink the velvety fish and prawn curry via ice luge." - Julia Chen
