"If it weren’t for Britney Spears blasting through the speakers, one might mistake JR’s for a dive bar. But the oldest gay bar in Houston is where folks come for mugs of frozen margaritas while shimmying to hyper-pop tunes that have probably done an Ibiza circuit. Even in the sweatiest of summers, you’ll see bargoers out under covered cabanas on their massive patio. The real show is inside, though, where go-go dancers perform and people toss out singles to the queen lip-syncing for her life during an emotional Whitney Houston power ballad. If you’re bar hopping in Montrose, put JR’s on your list, especially on “Sunday Funday” when drinks are under three bucks." - Gianni Greene
