Quack's 43rd Street Bakery

Bakery · Hancock

Quack’s 43rd Street Bakery - Review - Hyde Park - Austin - The Infatuation

Quack’s Bakery has been around in some form or another since the 1980s, so they’ve had plenty of time to get their scones, danishes, and chocolate twist croissants just right. These aren’t the fancy pastries you’ll see plastered on social media—they’re more homestyle and probably made with an unreasonable amount of butter. It’s also a no-frills space—you’re here to grab your pastries and enjoy them at home or on one of the patio tables facing a charming section of Hyde Park. We like the cherry danishes and the sugared cinnamon rolls, but they also make a solid jalapeño-cheddar sausage kolache if you’re in the mood for something savory. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary - Nicolai McCrary

Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop

Bakery · Holly

New Austin Bakery Rockman Coffee + Bakeshop Opens in East Austin | Eater Austin

Opened by acclaimed Austin pastry chef Amanda Rockman, this new Holly-neighborhood bakery-café leans into its motto of “caffeine, gluten, sugar, butter, and booze,” offering a broad selection of sweet and savory pastries alongside cocktails, beer, wine and coffee. Standout items include numerous croissants — sweet versions like a churro croissant filled with dulce de leche cream and chocolate fudge and coated in cinnamon sugar, and a lemon-meringue croissant with a lemon-cured filling and flamed meringue — as well as savory croissants such as ham-cheese-mustard and classic kouign‑amanns (including a spiced pecan variant). Other offerings include halva chocolate-chip and oat-flour white-chocolate cookies, cakes, pecan bars, brookies, bagels with schmears (examples: a New York–style cheesecake–blueberry‑lavender compote or a lox with green onions), and focaccia sandwiches with ricotta, tomatoes and olives. Weekend-only items feature indulgent treats like a strawberry‑cheesecake croissant topped with strawberry glaze, pieces of strawberry and chocolate pearls. Beverage options range from a Shandy made with Live Oak Brewing beer and house-made lemonade and the Sammy Sunrise (fresh-squeezed orange and pineapple with sparkling wine) to vermouths, local beers from Zilker and Meanwhile Brewing Co., wines, coffee and teas. The counter-service space was designed by the chef and architect Bengie Daniels of Latitude Architects and includes indoor seating (tables, bar stools, high-tops and a lounge) plus a window into the kitchen. Opening-week hours are Friday–Monday (Oct. 11–14) from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; regular hours will be weekdays 7 a.m.–7 p.m. and weekends 8 a.m.–7 p.m.; a pickup window on East Cesar Chavez will open in two weeks, and takeout can be ordered in person or online. - Nadia Chaudhury
