Offering a relaxed alternative to flying and a much easier option than the current multi-change route, this brand-new daytime high-speed train links Paris and Berlin in around eight hours. Departing Paris’s Gare de l’Est at 9.55am and arriving in Berlin just after 6pm, and in the other direction leaving Berlin Hauptbahnhof at 11.54am and arriving just before 8pm, it makes stops in Strasbourg, Frankfurt and Karlsruhe along the way. French and German operators highlight its much smaller environmental impact, with Alain Krakovitch of TGV-Intercités noting that, compared with a plane, the journey between Berlin and Paris by this train generates only one hundredth of the CO2 emissions. Tickets are on sale from just €59 (£49) one way, positioning it as both an affordable and greener choice for travellers. - Liv Kelly
