"An established marine park famous for its clear blue waters, abundant coral and largely empty beaches, this island destination is a major draw for snorkelling and day-trip tourism. Designated as a national park in 1981 and located roughly 60 km off the Phang Nga mainland, it sees heavy visitor activity in the dry season (roughly May–October) when fleets of speedboats ferry bathing-suit-clad tourists to snorkel sites. While the protected status helps conserve rich marine life and attracts tour operators, it also imposes rules that constrain traditional sea-based livelihoods and contributes to seasonal, limited employment for local residents." - Nick Measures
