"Managed by Mikihiro Wada from a storefront at the quieter end of Hondori Shopping Arcade, this minimalist boutique (opened in 2014) sells faded, high-quality jeans that double as personal souvenirs of the city. The shop runs the Denim Project, which outfits local participants with two pairs to wear in rotation for a year; staff collect the jeans weekly and run a special wash that cleans without removing the stains so each pair accumulates authentic, occupation-specific wear. Using Resolute denim made by craftsmen in the Bingo area, the initiative positions itself as “slow fashion,” promoting Onomichi and its denim industry by offering one-of-a-kind garments accompanied by stories about the people who wore them — fishermen, farmers, carpenters, monks and more — and currently involves around 120 locals." - Tom Miyagawa Coulton
