"An enormous cavernic chamber with an entrance over 100 m high that opens onto a pristine sandy beach separated from the river by a semicircular pool; the interior is even more expansive than the exterior suggests, large enough to dwarf monumental structures and lit sufficiently by the entrance that birds rather than bats dominate. The site serves as an accessible multi-night campsite for guided trips, complete with a field kitchen serving grilled meats, stir-fries and rice, and a sizeable support team of guides, cooks, porters and safety staff. At around three million years old, it offers dramatic boulder fields, swifts nesting in the rafters and easy-but-impressive first encounters with the region’s underground scale, and can be visited on two-day, one-night tours from nearby Phong Nha." - Joshua Zukas
