"In 2013, Carole Bamford opened this Kingham outpost, the first Daylesford pub with rooms and the blueprint for that now-unmistakable Daylesford aesthetic: rustic natural materials layered with texture—wide oak floors, bare stone walls, exposed beams, pitched ceilings with tongue-and-groove paneling—plus buttery textiles and a deliberately narrow palette of creams, grays, and browns. The effect is grounding and restful, which, combined with its honeypot village setting, means you’ll need to plan ahead for a reservation. Downstairs, an open-kitchen destination restaurant serves food that’s more refined than you might expect (organic côte de boeuf for two; sweetbreads with an optional truffle supplement), while the come-as-you-are front pub offers seats by the log fire or on the terrace in good weather. Amenities are a restaurant and bar, and it doubles as a community hub with local bands every Tuesday and supper clubs themed around foraging and seasonal game." - Jo Rodgers
