"From the outside, it looks like a small boutique, but inside a large open plan and grand staircase reveal hundreds of independent labels curated by Emily Dyson. More than twenty years ago, Dyson’s store, Couverture, joined forces with Ian Paley’s menswear brand, The Garbstore, to create three floors of clothing, accessories, and home goods, and the pair have run it ever since, turning it into something of an institution in the “town square” of Notting Hill. Set in a former timber yard Dyson once visited for DIY projects, the shop preserves the original structure; what appears to be a simple shop window opens into a t-shaped space that extends left and right behind neighboring buildings. The mix of old and new reflects Dyson’s eye and her community-minded approach—she buys with specific customers and friends in mind, thinking about what will give people pleasure. Their magazine, Forecast, which comes with online orders, coalesces their global community with Q&As with new designers and Dyson and Paley’s top picks for the season." - Carmen Rosy Hall
