First Look at Italian Restaurant Cane Pazzo in Hanahan | Eater Carolinas

"Set to open on Saturday, June 14 in Hanahan, this neighborhood osteria from former Indaco chef and Indigo Road culinary director Mark Bolchoz (co-owned with his wife Ariana) emphasizes traditional osteria vibes and a focus on Lowcountry products and produce. The seasonal menu features rotating dishes such as ricotta triangoli with Sungold tomato sauce and a corn-and-pepper risotto, alongside well-worn starters like meatballs and crispy mozzarella, a variety of pastas, and protein-driven mains including pan-seared fish and a ribeye with garlic compound butter. The laid-back, convivial dining room at 1276 Yeamans Hall Road is anchored by a wood-fired oven and decorated with black-and-white family photos and leather banquettes; hours will be Tuesday–Thursday 5–9 p.m. and Friday–Saturday 5–10 p.m." - Erin Perkins

Lives up to the hype. Quite crowded early on a Monday but steady, efficient, non rushed service. Friendly and helpful. Food was absolutely delicious. Mad Dog Monday specials were cool. Bartender was skilled. Decor was homey. A little loud but not terrible.

Cane Pazzo is truly an amazing restaurant that goes above and beyond to make every dining experience special. The environment is warm and inviting. The food itself is outstanding and always perfectly prepared. But what really sets Cane Pazzo apart is the service. The staff doesn’t just take care of you; they anticipate your needs. At our visit, they overheard us talking about an appetizer we wanted to try and surprised us by gifting it to our table, a gesture that showed just how thoughtful and attentive they are. It’s that kind of next-level hospitality that makes Cane Pazzo unforgettable.

Heard the buzz of this new restaurant. Awkward area, not the best neighborhood. But oh boy it was the best we’ve had in Charleston area. We’ve recently moved to the Charleston back in the spring and live in Mount Pleasant. The food scene here is rather awful, seafood towers and over priced steaks seem to the be the norm along with horrible service. This restaurant has by far has met our needs. Here is a breakdown of the evening. We made a 5pm reservation. There is a line that gathers at the door for them to unlock. It’s rather unpleasant to wait in line for your reserved table. If the demand is that high open at 4 for a happy hour etc. Staff was very pleasant and welcoming. We were immediately poured tap water without the offering of Aqua Panna or San Pellegrino. With other tables receiving these bottles I was surprised it wasn’t mentioned. Our server Kat was absolutely delightful, but she read the specials to us that were right behind her on a chalk board in which we already viewed. Again not to ding at her, she was great, it just didn’t make sense. Kat engaged in conversation with us and was the best server we’ve ever had in the Charleston vicinity. My goodness I hope she makes bank in tips! She’s a gem! Cocktails: King Bee was too sweet, while pretty, you couldn’t taste the notes of juniper that highlight a gin drink. There was a lot going on and the other cocktail the horse with no name. Was a take on a bourbon cocktail and was more like a horse with no saddle. No bourbon to be tasted and very very sweet. Wine was good but served room temperature and reds really should be in the upper 50’s. Caesar salad: Missing anchovies or real Caesar taste. Still decent for the area. Crispy mozzarella: this was a 5pm reservation and it was clear the fryer oil was already bad. The sticks were over cooked or in bad oil Pork chop: it was either not brined long enough or no brine at all. Instead of using a jam, highlight the fresh chilis. Lumache: Pasta was good was but there was a rather bland taste to the dish. It was sort of just shredded pork in a stock stew sauce. Good but not something to write home about. Peaches: weren’t ripe and served on a hot plate it melted the cheese into almost a curdled as it was separating because of build up of oil type cheese sauce. The daily bread: delicious but way too much butter and charred/burnt too much. The words are in Italian. Even though we’re world travelers we don’t speak Italian. The title of each dish is in Italian with the ingredients beneath but not explaining the type of pasta. Overall the food was delicious despite this feedback. Other notes were the staff standing next to us chatting near the bathrooms. It was overpowering our own conversation. The door to the kitchen was wide open and we could see inside to the dish pit with several staff frantically running in and out from the outside door behind us. While we were waiting outside for the 5pm door open, we saw all the cooks and staff smoking cigarettes. Which is fine we get it, but if you don’t open the doors until 5 and guests have nowhere to go they’ll generally wonder around. We’ll be back it was a great evening.

Tucked into Hanahan’s cozy community, this Italian spot delivers a true downtown-dining vibe without the drive. Seated outside at a roomy picnic table, equipped with light and fans! The brick-oven bread comes out perfectly blistered and fragrant, and the steak is cooked to absolute perfection—tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Every dish shows layers of depth and care, from the sauces to the seasoning. It’s the kind of place where you linger over your meal because everything tastes like it was made just for you. A must-visit for anyone craving elevated Italian in a welcoming neighborhood setting. Excellent team and service from the moment you walk through the door! Brilliant and decadent!

We had the most amazing experience at Cane Pazzo tonight! The atmosphere is incredible, the decor is spot on and it feels so welcoming. I was more than slightly obsessed with the plates and bowls. The service was very good. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive and made the experience even better. The food is out of this world delicious. The meatballs melted in your mouth and the bucatini was phenomenal with the perfect amount of tang. The mozzarella sticks were so fresh and the breading was perfectly crispy. The tiramisu is the best I have ever had. It’s light and fluffy and has the most amazing slight citrus taste to it. I can’t rave enough about this restaurant not to mention there is a parking lot!!!! No street parking or outrageous lot fees. This is going to become a staple in our normal rotation. There was no detail left out and everything down to the placement of the napkin was perfectly executed. Great job guys you hit it out of the park!!

We have been to many downtown Charleston restaurants and this one has surpassed them all! Cane Pazzo is our new favorite-the food, drinks, and ambience was 10/10. The owners are fantastic and know how to run a great restaurant, the staff was professional and helpful and our server Natalie did a great job! We can’t wait to come back!!!

i had an incredible time. we went to friends & family and we’ve wanted to take the whole family but guess what? others loved it just as much, they’re about 2 weeks out on reservations! jump in quick! it’s awesome what they’ve done with this space. when you step in, you really go somewhere else. this may seem like i’m poking fun- but i’m not. growing up here in charleston, i was always big on the pig. eating such an amazing meal and watching the sun go down with that big piggly wiggly sign in the background. i couldn’t help but smile, how far this city has come! you don’t have to go downtown and struggle to park- it’s all right here at cane pazzo! (here’s my simple not influencer pic of some crazy good meatballs)!

One word: wow! I made this reservation for my family for my birthday dinner and I have never been so impressed with a combination of both the meal and the service. First off, our server Cat was incredible (girl you should pride yourself in your service thank you so much!)! Every drink, appetizer, entree, and dessert exceeded all of our expectations we had. I already know this place is going to be a staple for me to visit time and time again! (And my out of town parents will make me bring them back every time they are visit!)

Yelp
Cane Pazzo is the definition of a neighborhood gem--warm, lively, and full of kind, genuine service. The food blew me away from start to finish. The daily bread is easily one of the best things I've had in Charleston. I tried the crispy clam strips , gramigna, bucatini nero, and the agnolotti--which stole the show and might be my new favorite pasta anywhere. Everything feels thoughtful and well-crafted while being affordable. Between the glow of the oven, the buzz of the room, and a menu that celebrates both comfort and creativity, Cane Pazzo is a place I'll keep coming back to.

Yelp
My husband and I shared a phenomenal meal on a date night at Cane Pazzo, and we can't wait to go back! We made a reservation (a must!) for a Friday evening and were promptly seated in a cozy corner booth. The restaurant was a little on the loud side, but became quieter as the evening grew later. Our server, Anne, was friendly and warm, and made excellent menu recommendations for us. We couldn't decide on which appetizer to order, so we went with three! The meatballs with polenta were the most delicious I've ever had, the mortadella crescentini special was fabulous, and the daily bread is NOT to be missed. My husband ordered the agnolotti and I had the risotto, and both were simple, tasty, and perfectly cooked. For dessert we had tiramisu and peach swirl gelato, both of which were lovely. I HIGHLY recommend Cane Pazzo - it was the best meal I've had in a long time, and we can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I am SO, SO excited for this addition to Hanahan. I wanted to come twice before I wrote a review to make sure it wasn't a fluke and I am so happy to report it wasn't! I've dined twice - once on a date night and once for a family birthday celebration - and both times Cane Pazzo was phenomenal. We've ordered quite a few items from the menu but the can't-miss dishes are definitely anything on the specials board, the fried mozzarella, the meatballs, the agnolotti, the risotto (I had a nice tomato, n'duja, stracciatella version), tiramisu, and the entire cocktail/mocktail list. If the long beans are still on the menu, grab those also. We also really, really enjoyed the potatoes if you have room for a side! The pastas are all made in house and I love that even a "simple" dish feels elevated. I can't wait to come with my friends and order family style so I can try even more! I love the ambience and the staff. I love the food and the drinks. What a wonderful addition to the area! Do yourself a favor and stop in!

Yelp
Is there a sixth star option? This place was amazing. I know it's been getting a lot of hype lately, but worthy of every praise.. Tucked in the back of strip mall, this is a not so hidden gem. Features a patio (with events), beautiful bar, open kitchen, and classy yet easy going ambiance. Our server Rachel was amazing. Her recommendations of literally half the menu was on point as well ordered half the menu and were impressed by each selection (see photos). Make your way to north charleston, the drive is worth it

Yelp
So excited to try out a local Italian spot that opened right outside of Charleston. Beautiful establishment located in a strip mall (do NOT let that prevent you from visiting). The interior was stunning and the view of the kitchen is a beautiful touch. There were so many mouth watering choices on the menu. The wood fired sourdough with white pimento was one of our favorites. Will be a must order any time we visit. Also had wood fired peppers, pasta, and added on the long beans at the last minute per the recommendation of our server. Everything was wonderful! Waitress and hostesses were very sweet. A bit loud- but again- worth it!

Yelp
Perfect experience from service, vine, interior and most importantly the food. Meatballs are a must, not pictured is one of the best Caesars I've had. Pasta options are can't miss. Just a wonderful spot and we will be back soon and often.

Yelp
Geniunely one of the most well rounded best family meal that is both comforting and innovative using local produce and seasonal offerings. The staff is amazing and we were in and out really quick for a meal before the baseball game. The vibes is diner meets rustic Italian farmhouse feels. I really enjoyed every dish, especially the meatballs and the bucatini! Their veggies are all a must and the tiramisu ‼

Yelp
Who would have thought this unassuming little corner plaza in Hanahan would house multiple delicious restaurants? I have to start off with a shout out to our amazing server, Anne H. She treated us like family, to the point where I was wracking my brain to figure out if I had met her before or somehow knew her. If she had grabbed an extra chair to sit with us, it would have felt totally normal. If you get Anne as your server, count your blessings. You're off to a great start. As for food... This group of friends and I choose a restaurant for quarterly family dinner. We typically order the entire menu. CP's menu was a little too long for that to happen, but we did order most of it. Appetizers: 1. Two orders of meatballs (currently $13 each), honestly one of the best meatballs I have ever had the luck to eat. I could have just eaten that meatball and left happy. 2. The daily bread ($8) was crispy on the bottom and fluffy on top and melting deliciousness in my mouth. Anne described it as a Neapolitan pizza style crust and she was spot-on. 3. Two orders of Shuler Farms peach special ($14) - we ordered one and ate it so quickly that we asked for a second order. Even better than the meatballs, if I dare say. This is the dish that peaches were made for. 4. Two orders of fig & prosciutto special ($14) - I don't normally like gorgonzola anything, but this was delicious. 5. Crispy mozz ($10) I didn't actually try this but everyone else at the table loved it, especially with the leftover sauce from the meatballs. 6. Long beans ($8) - I would eat this every day for the rest of my life. The fontina fondue? Genius. Loved it. It was also really fun to pull the beans out like spaghetti. 7. Charred eggplant ($8) this was an afterthought and we ordered it with our entrees, but also deserves recognition. YUM. Entrees: We ordered all of the pastas. Six of us, six pastas, good math. 1. Linguine ($25) was my favorite. Lightly seasoned, the most summer-y dish in my opinion. 2. Agnolotti ($25) second favorite. The creamed corn made the dish for me. 3. Lumache ($24) the perfect bite and the perfect ragu. 4. Bucatini ($22) closest to standard spaghetti and sauce for our pickiest eater but we all went back for another bite. 5. Triangoli ($23) triangle raviolis, almost everyone's favorite but mine - it was a little al dente for me, but the filling was divine. 6. Risotto ($29) I don't love crab so it was my least favorite by no fault of its own. My friends also each ordered an affogato (I had a bite and wish I could have had room for more) and two got tiramisu to bring home for breakfast, which looked very good. Next time I want to try the proteins and the potato and I will definitely save room for dessert.

Yelp
The food was delicious and came out in a timely manner. Enjoyed the non-alcoholic selections. The staff were very friendly and appreciated that they were able to make accommodations for dietary restrictions. The restaurant itself was very clean and a great fire oven.

Yelp
We were excited to snag a reservation at this new spot in Hanahan. We got the fried mozzarella...generous portion, fresh and the perfect ratio of cheese to fried, crunchy breading. We also got the daily bread and I could have eaten 2 more orders. lol. The decor is cozy but I did find the atmosphere a little loud. We also had a two person table right at the front behind the hostess stand...not ideal. But overall we loved it and will for sure go back!

Yelp
Cane Pazzo just opened up around the corner from us-- we are super excited to have some more food options in the neighborhood. The vibe is perfect--cute, cozy, nice enough for a special date night but also easygoing for bringing along kids or visting family. My boyfriend and I went early on a wednesday and were able to be seated even though there were already quite a few tables. It picked up towards 7pm, but still had a nice volume, even when fully packed. It has that warm Italian gathering spot feel and service was an absolute pleasure. Our server (I forget her name!) was thoughtful, checked on us regularly, and gave great recs. We sat at one of the hightops towards the front. We appreciated that there were considered non-alcoholic cocktails on the menu, and I ordered a tart grapefruit mocktail served in vintage glassware. For appetizers we ordered two of the sides-- the wood-oven cabbage with fontina fondue and crispy garlic, and the squash and zucchini sformati with cracker crumb and provolone. Both were knockouts, but we were partial to the cabbage, which had just a nice char. For the main we shared the market fish, which that day was a pan-seared tilefish with green garlic, lemon, white wine, caper and parsley. The sauce was almost a tartar consistency, and the preparation simple and effective. Fish was cooked perfectly, served piping hot, and went fast. We also split a pasta dish-- on our server's rec we ordered the trangoli, a triangle pasta with herb ricotta, sungold tomato, garlic, white wine, and pecorino. I LOVED this dish. The sungold tomatoes were so zesty and fresh, different than your typical tomato sauce and took me a second to appreciate. A note on the pasta: it is definitely hand made and served traditionally al dente so expect a toothier bite. Lastly we had to try the housemade tiramisu. I'm typically not a fan but this version was great--creamy and not cloyingly sweet. The trick is to really get messy with it and work the cocoa powder into each spoonful. Overall, we had a great experience. We will definitely be back to try some of the other menu options. Excited to try it during nicer weather too, they had some bistro chairs outside...

Yelp
Cane Pazzo is the real deal! The Lumache is an easy pick, but the daily specials are always incredible. We are there all the time since they opened!

Yelp
Run, don't walk to Cane Pazzo! What a lovely hidden gem! I'm often traveling to North Charleston for business from out of town, and this place is a REALLY welcome addition to the food scene there. I kind of stumbled on to it while looking for good Italian in the area one night, and they exceeded every expectation! The service is attentive, and the food is top notch. Even though it's tucked into a strip mall, they've managed the impressive feat of carving out a cozy and charming outdoor space to complement the wonderful ambience inside. It's clear that everyone here puts a lot of care and attention into what they do. I'm definitely adding this place to my "must do" list whenever I'm back in town!

Yelp
Love this new spot in the neighborhood. Cute place, open kitchen, nice wine list, with a decent cocktail list as well. Menu was simple and to the point. All four items we had were great. My favorite was the okra. Anne was our super helpful server and walked us through the whole menu as it was our first time dinning there. I will be back for sure.

Yelp
A "must visit" establishment of the Charleston culinary scene. We attempted a visit last Friday; unfortunately, we were greeted by a line of patrons which extended well past the restaurant's charming threshold and were informed the next available reservation was four hours into the future. Tonight, we arrived with a reservation in hand: if you're interested in a really excellent dining experience, it's highly recommended you do the same. The dining room was comfortable, welcoming, and not stuffy or crowded in the least. My spouse and I were seated in a corner booth and greeted by our server Anne, who was exceptionally friendly, knowledgeable, and, perhaps most of all, welcoming. We ordered our drinks first and the cocktail menu was tasteful and got to the point, which was appreciated. We ordered three appetizers, simply because we couldn't decide which to cut: the daily bread, the meatballs which were nothing short of heavenly, and the mortadell' e crescintini... somewhere an Italian chef just kissed his fingertips without knowing why. We could've stopped there; instead, my spouse received her risotto and I the agnolotti stuffed with...wait for it... Creamed corn! I can't make this up. Agnolotti stuffed with creamed corn in a light, fresh tomato sauce. Like Gordon Ramsay, I usually prefer my entree with a mid rare protein, but it just worked. Anne knowledgeably informed us the ingredients were locally sourced, which was evidenced by how fresh everything was. Just a divine experience: this will be on my list of unforgettable Italian dining experiences for the rest of my life. We were very thankful for Anne, the Chef and his team who all worked to provide us with a memorable meal. Grazie mille!

Yelp
We had the best experience! We celebrated our 1 year anniversary here and enjoyed every minute. All of the food was delicious (and we ordered a lot!) the vibes were perfect and the service was so good. Everyone was nice and friendly.

Yelp
Came here the other day for the first time. Friendly staff, and nice ambience, it was packed on a random weekday at 7pm! Server was knowledgeable, had solid recommendations -- also -- bathrooms Were immaculately clean and scented, always check the bathrooms. I plan to go back again and try more dishes as their menu evolves -- did not try any speciality drinks but maybe next time! Homemade tiramisu was very good, not too sweet, which is always a good sign.

Yelp
We just decided to stop in around 8 pm. The ambiance was really cool - felt like an old Italian restaurant. We ordered a few things to try. The meatballs, Cesar salad, ravioli and squash. The favorites were the ravioli which had a nice lemon Sauce. The only thing was the basil on top was dark and not sure if it got hot or was bad ? My husband loved the meatballs. We would recommend and come back again to try more dishes. Ample parking !

Yelp
Great decor and friendly staff. The bartender was outstanding in her professionalism and knowledge. I had a pasta dish; lumache. The flavor was excellent and the portion was appropriate. In my opinion, the pasta wasn't al dente.

Yelp
Service, food, and ambiance were all 10/10! Do yourself a favor and get the meatballs and bread to start
