Craftsman and Wolves Serves Kalamansi Choux and Philly Cheesesteak Kouign Amann in Mountain View | Eater SF

"Opening its first permanent space outside San Francisco on Saturday, June 7, this bakery moves from serving the South Bay via the Palo Alto Farmers’ Market to a dedicated storefront inside Mountain View’s the Dean. The debut menu features signature items plus exclusives: a summer choux filled with vanilla crème fraîche whipped ganache and guava-kalamansi, topped with a pink craquelin and a chocolate wolf; a savory jalapeño helix—twisted croissant dough with jalapeño-cheddar béchamel finished with hot honey; and a kouign-amann riff packed with Philly cheesesteak filling, caramelized onions, and peppers, with a fuller savory lineup planned in the coming months. Co-founder Lawrence Lai, who died before the opening, heavily influenced both the menu and the darker, more masculine interior—burnt-wood bar treated with shou sugi ban, copper and origami-like chairs and lighting—intended as a blueprint for future outposts. The shop will be open daily (weekdays 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m.; weekends 8 a.m.–2 p.m.)." - Paolo Bicchieri

Thanksgiving 2024: Here Are the Best Options for Takeout and Dine-In in San Francisco | Eater SF

"When everyone zigs, I’d suggest Craftsman and Wolves for beautiful cakes and desserts or their brioche buns to accompany your meal: they’re offering a classic buttery brioche with Maldon salt ($14 for eight) and a truffle-and-chive version ($18 for eight); pre-orders are available on the Craftsman and Wolves website with pickup at the Valencia Street shop, the Den, and the California Avenue farmers market in Palo Alto." - Dianne de Guzman

The Insect-Driven Disease BCTV Is Jeopardizing This California County’s Tomato Crop | Eater SF

"I'm noting that Craftsman and Wolves, a longstanding San Francisco bakery known for meticulous gateaux and savory-leaning pastries—notably muffins with embedded soft-boiled eggs and croissants stuffed with mortadella and havarti—is expanding beyond the city with a third location in Mountain View later this year; co-owner Lawrence Lai told Palo Alto Online the menu will be similar to the bakery’s previous location with some Mountain View–exclusive items, and he hopes to eventually expand to other cities nationwide." - Justine Jones

Bakers Bench Features Vegan Baked Goods in Chinatown | Eater LA

"Back in the Bay Area, she worked at Craftsman and Wolves, a patisserie best known for its savory muffins that hide runny-yolked eggs, an environment that contributed to her pastry training before moving on to Bouchon and the French Laundry." - Cathy Chaplin

The Best Bakeries to Visit (and Pastries to Eat) in San Francisco | Bon Appétit

"Not far from Tartine, in the heart of the glitzy part of the Mission, isCraftsman and Wolves, which offers a selection of standard-ish treats (croissants, kouign amann, cookies, mini cakes) and elaborate, mysterious confections. I got one of each group: a “stone”—a sesame praline base topped with passionfruit and vanilla cream—and a dark chocolate chip cookie—with picturesque ripples, caramel undertones, and just the right amount of salt. (If that sounds delicious to you, you can order the cookies online; they ship nationwide.) You can sit in the space, which is a little dark and busy, but I recommend taking your haul a couple of blocks to Mission Dolores Park, which has a great view of the skyline (and so. many. dogs.)." - BySarah Jampel

I did an online preorder for Craftsman and Wolves and was able to easily pick it up from the register. We got the following items: Apple Hibiscus Kouign Amann - not my favorite kouign amann. I am used to kouign amann that are more crisp and caramelized. These ones seemed a bit more fluffy and more sugary sweet than caramelized sugar. French Dip Pain Suisse - my favorite of what we tried. I reheated it at home and it was delicious. The meat was really tender and flavorful with just the right amount of cheese. PBJ Cookie - just a standard PB cookie. Not bad but nothing special. S'mores Pain Suisse - I was very excited about this but to be quite honest, I didn't get much of a s'mores vibe. The filling didn't taste like much to me besides something sweet. I couldn't really distinguish anything that reminded me of s'mores. Triple Chocolate Croissant - this was OK. When you get a bite of the middle with chocolate in it, it tastes chocolatey. Otherwise, I don't think it tasted very chocolatey. Some parts of it seemed a bit bitter like it may have been burned. Valrhona Dark Chocolate Chip Cookie - I had read rave reviews about this cookie but I didn't find it to be anything special Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating and a free parking garage below the building

I got the Mexihana Mocha and the Croissant Sando (Smoked Ham, Swiss Cheese, Honey Mustard Aioli). The Mocha was not too sweet, is a bit spicy, and had a bit of bitterness that seems to come from dark chocolate. Very tasty. The croissant was recommended by one of staff, and it was delicious as well. The honey bacon in the croissant was a nice balance to the savory ham, which is a nice touch. The service is...OK. The young server who helped me may be excited and new at the job, so he was hovering, which after a while it felt somewhat intrusive. I'd give this place a try again since it's close by. Overall, it's a pricey spot, but you get what you paid for.

I bought pastries to eat at the venue as well as extra treats to take home with me. The food is as good as I remember the SF location. I look forward to returning and trying more of their savory menu items. For my first trip, I mainly got the bakery goods.

1. Drink: Our cappuccino "for here" was served in a "to go" cup. Espresso shot has a burnt taste. Either machine water temp is too high or roast level is not medium and is actually venetian/extra dark. 2. Food is OK, but Criossioant is average. Seating is mediocre. Both in quantity and quality. Atmosphere is more or less not for staying. Take it on the way if you can't find any other place. It's a place that will thrive in vacuum of any coffee shop competition nearby.

Craftsman & Wolves has finally opened their storefront in the South Bay in Mountain View off of San Antonio a block east from El Camino. I had a chance to stop by the weekend after their opening and caught the tail end of their pastry selection a little after noon. It's a compact space that considerably smaller than their Valencia flagship store with dark grey wooden shelves and light grey counter top with a polished concrete floor. The furniture inside is pretty neat with the angular copper chairs. They have a lot of goodies such as their own confectioned salted caramels, vials of Tabasco salt and bags of roasted coffee for sale. I found the line to be a bit awkward. As you enter the door, it wraps toward the left against the wall, past two tables where people are seated. I was trying to keep some distance between me and a seated couple, but I was only about 3 feet away from them. They had only three of their signature Rebel Withins, two regular and one elote. I opted for the elote. Later at home when I actually ate it, the dough around the egg was actually fairly undercooked. I had to open it up and bake it for about five minutes to harden it sufficiently. I've had the Rebel Within from their Valencia location in SF and don't recall it ever being that doughy. I also ordered the Coconut Banana Bread and Lime Wire, which is essentially an espresso tonic with a heavy infusion of lime elements with a double shot of espresso. It was rich in flavor, but may be an acquired taste for less-seasoned coffee drinkers. Rebel Withins were all gone around 12:30pm on Saturday. I went for a second round to try the Dulce de Leche Latte, which has a heavy caramel flavor. It tasted good, a bit sweeter than I usually prepare my lattes. I also got a pastry which had Calamansi cream inside of a crackled red shell. It had a pleasant citrus flavor and would go well with a pour over or Americano. With the launch of their savory menu, I’ve now tried the Biscone and Gravy, Frittata Sandwich and my fav, Yuzu Egg Salad Sando. They’re perfect for lighter fare and the sandwiches are now available for delivery on DoorDash.

My husband and I stopped for breakfast. Our coffee drinks were okay - not terrible, not outstanding. The food prices are very high. I got a gluten free biscone, and it had a weird taste and a detectable aftertaste of baking soda. Definitely not worth the $10 or so that we paid for it. My husband got the Rebel Within and also thought it was not worth the hefty price tag. We may give this one more try to taste the desserts, which looked beautiful. But so far it was a letdown.

Google
Creative and beautiful pastries and amazing service! Great location! I’ve been wanting to visit this cafe in SF so glad they just opened one in my neighborhood in Mountain View! I ordered my favorite Iced Honey Lavender Latte and got the delicious almond brittle and oatmeal raisin cookies! Will be back again for sure! ❤️

Google
I accidentally ordered a savory croissant that contained ham, not realizing it included meat, as I don’t eat ham. I was disappointed at first, but when I brought it to the attention of the staff, one of the team members kindly offered to replace it without hesitation. I truly appreciated her thoughtful gesture, even though I hadn’t asked what mortadella was, she handled the situation with kindness and grace.

Yelp
Craftsman and Wolves, a popular San Francisco-based patisserie cafe, recently opened its new location in Mountain View. I visited with a friend in the late morning. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful, even when I couldn't remember the name of the thing I wanted. They were great at explaining the differences between the items they had on display. I decided on the Rebel Within, which resembles a muffin but is actually a soft, savory pastry made using pork and cheese, with a soft-cooked egg in the middle. As someone who doesn't usually eat breakfast, it was a perfect and delicious quick bite. They didn't have any of their agua frescas when I was there, which was a shame because I felt like it would have been a good pairing.

Yelp
A little smaller than their SF location I have been to but very much keeping their aesthetic. Nice clean space with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. The pastry case is always something to marvel. It is like taking a trio to an art museum. I spontaneously opted to get their limeade espresso tonic drink as I was purchasing a pastry and this was easily my favorite thing. Just perfection! Not too much lime, not too much espresso, balanced with beautiful flavor.

Yelp
Small cafe tucked away amongst residential buildings. I got the latte with berry almond syrup. Was slightly disappointed with the taste because it fell closer to the savoury side of the spectrum than the sweet side. The apple koign Aman looked pretty good.

Yelp
I love the pastries and coffee here so much! And I like that they have different ones every once in awhile to keep things interesting. That being said, their staples like the muffin with the egg in it are absolutely delicious, too. Parking is in the condo garage and can be easy to miss if you don't look for the signs off of San Antonio Rd.

Yelp
Beautiful and cozy Great food and drinks again Seasonal are a must to try. Food is beautiful to look at. Service is amazing and helpful.

Yelp
One of the best pastries and desserts I have ever been to! There is a garage in the lower level for customers, which is quite nice and spacious there. You just have to take the stairs up and the restroom is also in the parking building instead of inside the store. The staffs were friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. You can always trust their recommendations if it's your first time. Their Secret of Eden is my favorite. We always have to get this everytime we visit. It has a nice texture and balanced flavors. Not too sweet or plain. Their other cakes and desserts are also great! Haven't have a bad one from here. For the drinks, I like their matcha latte. It was sweet naturally with no added sugar. Their coffee was really good too! Their outdoor seats are really nice since it's in a quiet neighborhood. May be too cold for the winter, but summer would be awesome! Definitely would come back!

Yelp
Love that there's a flagship store now and I don't have to get it at a farmers market in downtown Palo Alto while fighting for my life for a parking spot. One thing to note here is sometimes the Scotch egg muffin comes undercooked. The last two times I arrived it was but I just asked the staff if they could warm it up and they gladly replaced it with a new one. Doesn't hurt to be nice! I also really love the coffee. It's a great balance and not too acidic. One thing I do wish is that they had more seating but I understand that with more seating it could get to too loud.

Yelp
I ordered a Fauxquito and CRX (croissant) Pudding both warm and for here, and a couple to-go pastries. The cashier and barista were both friendly - welcoming and quickly attentive. The coffee was delicious - coffee flavors came thru and the vanilla and coconut were delicate, not overpowering or overly sweet. The warmed CRX pudding was good. It was a bit more like a French toast. The top was crispy and there were hints of orange. It was good but very sweet and I'd probably only order if sharing (didn't finish it). I really appreciate the ambience. The black and "greige" colors were somewhat soothing and gave "chill vibes". Music selection and volume were great. Over head lighting was well done too. The cakes are a bit on the pricey side, even as compared to other Palo Alto and Mountain View patisseries. I hesitated to try some of the 14-16 mini cakes. By the way, I wanted to knock out a few emails, but arrived with a dead laptop. I didn't see any outlets (which I can respect) so do come powered up. Overall, an enjoyable coffee shop experience and I would return.

Yelp
This coffee shop is located underneath an apartment complex. Parking is really easy since there's an underground garage, which is always a plus. Going inside the cafe itself is pretty small, there isn't much seating so if you want to grab a seat inside I would come earlier. However, there is some seating outside. I really enjoyed my coffee, I got the dulce de leche latte. I also got a sandwich which was delicious! Even though it was just a turkey sandwich, the sauce is really what made it so good for me. The staff were really kind and helpful as well. They gave me some recommendations which I always appreciate! Will be coming back again.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious well balanced not too sweet latte with a foam top! Across from a busy plaza with a ton of workout classes, this makes a perfect spot for a quick coffee and pastries! There's limited seating inside but the pastries are absolutely gorgeous. We sat for a while and chatted while we had some coffee and snacks! Didn't get to try all of the pastries but they sure are gorgeous!

Yelp
Lots of seating inside, cute cafe, lots of free parking in the garage. - Avocado toast was huge and good for the price tag ($15) - Matcha tonic is matcha over sparkling water and was very refreshing, I really enjoyed it! I would definitely come back for this. - Iced mocha tasted mostly like chocolate milk, no hints of coffee to me. - Matcha snickerdoodle was soft and not too sweet but was not mind blowing

Yelp
Got the harvest sage biscone twice. The first time, the teenaged cashier asked if I would like to pair it with their mushroom gravy. I asked if it's gluten free. They mentioned it's vegetarian. This immediately told me they don't train staff on allergens here. After I asked if there is flour in the gravy, they confirmed yes after asking someone else. This experience knocked off a star. Anyways, the biscuit is great. It smells wonderful and you get buttery herb taste when you bite into it. I also tried the financier for the first time. Wow. It was out of this world. I loved the crunchy cocoa nibs and the brown butter really shined through. A decadent treat!

Yelp
The interior is industrial modern but there's not many seating available inside. Staff there are helpful and friendly when giving recommendations. Overall, nearly 4* but I think there are things that definitely need improvement. Matcha latte: 5/10 I wasn't very impressed, I wished it was a lot stronger. It wasn't bitter but probably due to it being a blend of ceremonial and culinary grade matcha. Muffin: 4/10 Pretty dense and the majority is made up of the crumble instead of the actual muffin. I like sweet things occasionally but this was too overwhelmingly sweet for me. Triple chocolate croissant: 5/10 The croissant itself was okay, but I wished that it had more chocolate inside. It was more bitter than sweet in my opinion. Apple hibiscus kouign amain: 10/10 My favorite pastry I tried here. The filling was delicious and wasn't too sweet. The outside was flaky-- balancing perfectly with the soft inside.

Yelp
I love that this has taken the spot by The Dean apartments! Such a good location! If you find parking hard, go to the garage, go to the side streets, or park in the San Antonio plaza garage by Hyatt or by Safeway and walk over and cross the street! All free parking! Interior is shallow, so line seems long, but it moves fast. Order your pastries at the glass case, all others at the register. Pastries look great, seem creatively crafted. Got the matcha cookie ($4) and the lion head pastry. They were very overpriced... but alas! I wanted to try! Matcha latte: green colored milk. Skip... 0/5 24 h brewed tea: I wish it said the flavors--I was surprised by the berry-tasting tea! 4.5/5 Turkey sandwich: sounds great, is actually really simple. The pickled veggies on the side are extremely sad... little dices of carrot. At that point, just give me the slice like at taco trucks or a pickle or like ... something? It felt like Hansel and Gretel's bread crumbs, but veggies... veggie crumbs... 4/5 Avocado toast add bacon: this is monstrous with so much going on! Hefty, unlike the mush you get at other places. Solid, messy, good. Cumin flavor is overpowering, though. The bacon is sweet, soggy. Reminds me of Millionaire's bacon at Sweet Maple. 4/5 -- The tables outside are a hodge podge of mismatched furniture. The patio is so spacious, and if they were more intentional with furniture and umbrella placement, it would probably be more dine-in friendly. Theres a bench between Craftsman and Wolves and The Dean apts, and if they put a lengthwise, community-style table there with long benches to match, they could really maximize the use of those built-in benches, then move the 2 person tables to the front and side patio. Anyway, overall, cute spot--paid over $50? for this breakfast lol... maybe if you want to impress someone, yessss! Or as a regular spot for a pastry or two!

Yelp
Been to their other location in SF. Love their pastries though it's quite expensive. Got their frittata sandwich and the seasonal blueberry matcha latte. Both were good. Also tried a couple seasonal pastries. One had apple in it and another was more savory with cheese and tomatoes in it. Both were flaky and delicious. Nice quiet area with street parking for free.
google avatar

Yelp
Lowk quite expensive for what it is LOL matcha latte: good, but tastes like the one i make at home the rebel: love the egg, but i think they could use more seasoning. the biscuit part was a bit bland for sure matcha pastry (forgot what it was called); hmm very interesting combo of flavors, would not get again. was chaos inside my mouth, not a party :(

Yelp
I used to go the Craftsman and Wolves when I lived closer to the city. I was stoked to see they opened a cafe location here. The name itself is exciting. Good branding and it's clean inside. The gold plating decor and dark vibe gives a luxurious feeling. Service is ok.. they give the feeling they are not paid enough and don't wanna be there. However, the barista lady is friendly! The pastries are good but the coffee and lattes are what make it here. It's a small cafe but there are some seats to do work. None of the pastries and baked good are made in house, and they are delivered from the other commissary. It's a normal practice most bakery expansions do. The kouign aman was dry and not my cup of tea. I do like their croissants! The savory one is my favorite. What would make it better: have more variety, offer to heat up some of the baked goods if dining inside, call out the customer name or order when the drink is ready

Yelp
Another new hot and new brunch spot has popped up, and I had super high hopes since it's always so busy and has good reviews. Came here with my husband, our son, and my husband's grandma (who was visiting from out of town) on a weekday when school was out, and we got a few items to share: Yuzu egg salad sando Ham and Swiss sando Upper crust Chocolate chip cookie Chocolate croissant I would have gotten a drink to try except my husband had already made espresso drinks at home that day before coming here. Our son obviously loved the chocolate chip cookie & chocolate croissant, but the sandwiches were pretty standard and not super special IMO. It's not bad for a brunch coffee shop, but I wouldn't want to wait in line if we're in a pinch!

Tomo S.

Yelp
I used to go to the original Craftsman and Wolves in the Mission when I lived closer, so I was happy to see they opened a location in Mountain View. Funny enough, I've passed by San Antonio Street so many times and never noticed it was there. A hidden gem for sure. I stopped in around 1 p.m., which might have been too late because the pastry selection was pretty limited by then. We ended up getting a regular croissant and the avocado toast. The croissant was classic and well done, and the avocado toast was loaded with different ingredients--layers of flavor and texture that made it much more interesting than the standard café version. I also ordered a chai, which tasted good but came out lukewarm. I wish it had been hotter to match the chilly afternoon. I'll definitely come back, but next time I'm going earlier in the day for a full spread of pastries.

Yelp
Delicious pastries. Loved the sandwich and croissants there. I have followed them from SF to bay area.

Yelp
I was excited to Craftsman and Wolves opened a location in Mountain View and tried a few of their unique items: the Rebel Within, Lion's Head Stack, French Onion Biscone, and the Strawberry Kouign Amann. The Lion's Head Stack was certainly a unique and interesting dish. I also had the French Onion Biscone, which was exactly what you'd expect from a savory biscuit/scone. The Rebel Within, a signature item, was a bit of a disappointment for me as it was a little on the dry side. My favorite by far was the Strawberry Kouign Amann. The filling had a perfect balance of sweet and tart, and it added a fantastic new texture to the pastry. It was definitely the highlight of my order and something I'd get again. Glad to have a unique SF spot opening up a location in the South Bay and hope it continues. Will be back to try their patisserie items.

Yelp
I wanted to check this place out so I went right when it opened and after bodyrok class. Idr what my dessert was called. Egin? It looked like a big blackberry. Tbh it didn't taste that good to me. Just personal preference. I wish the inside was like a blackberry mousse or something. However it was beautifully made and looked cute. The inside was cute and the staff was nice to me. The chairs looked cool too. There's a garage underneath Junbi and then u walk through a door and some stairs to get on the street. Love the name of this place. I wanna try the food next.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE!! I've been to the location in SF before and I first found out about the rebel within muffin from the palo alto farmers market on sundays about 2 years back. I was very excited about them opening a location in the pennisula area! I haven't tried too many of their items besides the kougin amann, morning bun, and the rebel within. I tried the regular and the elote rebel within flavors here, both were very yummy! I love how unique the muffin is with the egg in the middle and runny yolk. I also like that it comes with the himalayan salt for you to add to the muffin! Absolutely delicious! I haven't had the chance to try their coffee or their other desserts, but will definitely come back!
google avatar

Jacqueline Z.

Yelp
Came here on a Friday after visiting the dentist. It was around 1:30 PM. I was surprised to see that they had the Rebel Within at that hour, so I went and decided to get it since it's one of their signature pastries. It was $9.50 so quite pricey for a muffin. I also got a Savory Croissant for $6.50. Decided to also get a dulce de leche latte. The Rebel Within was a bit cold and kind of underwhelming, especially for the price. I didn't realize it came with a small tube of pink salt, but it didn't really need it. Not sure I would get it again.. The Savory Croissant was surprising, mainly because I didn't know there was ham in it! To be honest, I didn't know what to expect. Nonetheless, I'd consider getting this one again. The Dulce de Leche latte was good - mainly tasted like condensed milk with coffee. There's not that much seating, and parking is in the garage underneath.
google avatar

Emily W.

Yelp
First time I came on a Sunday noon and they were sold out of most pastries. Came by again on a Wednesday around 11am to see if they'd have the rebel within muffin and lion's head stack in stock this time, and they did! Employees were super friendly. They asked if I wanted the pastries warmed up and I'm glad they did and would highly recommend doing so. The rebel within muffin was just alright. A bit overhyped and overpriced in my opinion. Flavor and texture wise it was a bit heavy, dense, and mushy. Came with a tiny tube of the sea salt flakes. The lion's head stack was amazing though! Would get this again and I personally think it's worth giving this bakery a shot just to try this pastry. It was super flaky, flavorful, and had so many layers with the flakiness of the pastry, meatball in the center, and all the flavors coming from the shaoxing wine, ginger, etc.
google avatar

Ryan C.

Yelp
Nice egg in a scone thing, but absolutely terrible (espresso) coffee. I guess it's not known to be a coffee shop but I think a little upgrade in the coffee department is much needed.
google avatar

Kim T.

Yelp
Stumbled across this place as I was running errands. I had no idea what to expect. The decorations are super minimalistic. There's some seating inside and outside. There is parking under ground but there aren't too many spots. I was drawn into the pastries due to the pretty display. They also sell coffee but I didn't get any -kouign amann: 2.5/5, I like kouign amann when it's formed in a circle because there's more layers of sugar and butter. This one had a square shape on top. It was flaky but I wish it was more caramelized. Compared to other ones I've had, it needed more of the crispy exterior. -triple chocolate croissant: 2.5/5, the croissant itself was good but the chocolate flavor didn't really stand out. Maybe it was more dark chocolate because it wasn't that sweet. I would come back but I would try other pastries or coffee.

Yelp
I visited the Craftsman and Wolves in the city many years back when I read about it in an article listing the top bakeries in the city. I remember being very impressed and was therefore excited when I saw that they were opening a location in Mountain View. While I don't consider myself a true croissant connoisseur as I still haven't taken a croissant making class and therefore don't know what goes into the craft of making these lovely pastries, I do consider myself reasonably knowledgeable to the point that I know that if you are going to be setting up shop down the street from Midwife then you really need to blow me away. I must say that I was very impressed. These people do know how to make a good croissant. I also love how they serve up savory morning pastries, which is something I don't see at a lot of patisseries. I also tried some of their dessert items, which are definitely pricey but are also quite delicious. I do have to say though that my track record of not being impressed with a bakery's signature item continues with Craftsman and Wolves. I tried the rebel within and I really wasn't impressed. There was something interesting about a soft-boiled egg being baked into a muffin but the muffin itself was so dry that I didn't really care for it. To each their own I guess. I also have to add that the service here is quite nice. The staff is really welcoming and friendly and they really make it a point to describe any menu item in detail if you have any questions. It's quite sad but I can't remember the last time I gave a shoutout for the service in a review. I definitely enjoyed my experience here and the fact they have an expansive menu is the main reason why I will continue to visit. One of the reasons why I don't really go to Midwife anymore is that they have the same menu all the time and don't really change anything. I know that there will be at least one new item the next time I visit.

Yelp
Spartan decor and furnishing. Modern, and minimalist vibes. However, just 10 seats , makes it a challenge to find a seat and get a bite in. They do make good coffee. My regular drip coffee was fresh, balanced, kinda citrusy, and not burnt. Their desserts are beautiful.

Yelp
At long last, Craftsman & Wolves has finally opened their storefront in the South Bay in Mountain View off of San Antonio a block east from El Camino. I've had Rebel Withins from their Valencia location and don't recall it ever being that doughy. I also ordered the Coconut Banana Bread and Lime Wire, which is essentially an espresso tonic with a heavy infusion of lime elements with a double shot of espresso. It was rich in flavor, but may be an acquired taste for less-seasoned coffee drinkers. While I was seated, I watched several customers walk up and ask for savory items. The staff informed them that savory items were not yet available because the appliance they ordered to make them arrived broken. Rebel Withins were all gone around 12:30pm on Saturday. I went for a second round to try the Dulce de Leche Latte, which has a heavy caramel flavor. It tasted good, a bit sweeter than I usually prepare my lattes. I also got a pastry called Summer Choux that had Guava Calamansi cream inside of a crackled red shell. It had a pleasant citrus flavor and would go well with a pour over or Americano. I look forward to returning when I'm in the area and trying more of the pastries and savory items once they are available.

Yelp
Did I miss the parking garage? Either way this coffee shop is right off the San Antonio Rd right next to Bank of America. Walked in and immediately saw the simple coffee menu and the copious amounts of pastries including the ones they are popular for. The cashier shared what was popular in both savory and sweet pastries. They all looked beautiful but I ultimately opted out of any pastries this visit. I knew I wanted to try the 24 hr strong af cold brew and asked how sweet the dulce de leche latte was and she was open to adding milk instead of the condensed milk. I opted to have it how it comes and was not disappointed. It was a yummy drink. It was sweet but not hurt your teeth sweet. The cold brew lived up to its name because it was strong af. Added a splash of oat milk and it was a go! I enjoyed both my coffee drinks. The cashier that helped me was very sweet and answered all my questions. She made the space welcoming. Didn't catch her name but she had colored hair. The space is aesthetically pleasing. Plenty of outdoor seating so a cool place to hang outside. Tables were small and had these cool metal chairs. How comfy? Idk. Another cool addition to the ever growing Mountain View.

Yelp
So excited they're finally open! Better late than never. I arrived opening day around noon and they only had entremets which I can't be too upset about but I'll be back for the viennoiserie. I grabbed one of their strawberry, cucumber, elderflower "pills" and ordered a half-caf macchiato off menu. Their coffee (for other coffee nerds) is definitely on the darker/classic Italian side but it holds up well to the richness and sugar of their desserts, so I'll allow it :) the pill was good and definitely lived up to the hype in terms of flavor and texture fun. It was a little sweeter than I'd like but I think it was true to form. Had their been other options, I would go for things a little less fruity sweet (pistachio, chocolate, cherry, etc) so I think that's just a matter of my own tastes. Very well made. The store is small but so light filled and airy and so clean, wow. Kind and quick service, and I'll be back for the baked treats. Welcome to the neighborhood, y'all

Yelp
We love the location of this place because it's so easy to come up from the garage. We've been here several times now and the coffee is always so consistent. The pastries are delicious as well. I love their sweet pain suisse. It can be hard to find seating sometimes because it gets busy, but we take it to go most of the time. I also think they don't have their own bathroom because the businesses here share the same bathroom

Yelp
So glad I no longer have to wait until the weekend to pick up C&W's offerings! The new B&M location in Mountain View is upscale looking, in line with the poshness of The Dean. True to form, the pastries there are creative, varied, and delicious. Not overly sweet, but just "right". The team here is friendly and well versed with each item they sell. I look forward to trying out new items/releases and the matcha tonic. My only issue has to do with The Dean itself. I could not return to the underground parking lot because the door to it required a code. Well, who would have the code? I ended up walking down the car ramp to get to my vehicle.

Yelp
I used to go to Craftsman and Wolves in the mission every time I went up to the city. Imagine my delight that they opened one closer to me! This is a newer, developing area in MV and I'm glad to see the diversity of culinary options popping up. This branch has some indoor and outdoor seating. We parked on the street a block down and walked over. Coffee is good. They had a blackberry almond syrup that added great flavor to my latte. Ordered a handful of pastries: coffee blackberry charlotte, malted milk ball stone, and their seasonal tart. Each pastry was just okay for me. I'm not sure if it's because they're not as fresh with the delivery from their headquarters or if my palette has changed. The charlotte and stone were pretty gelatinous , which is not my favorite. That texture made the flavors a lot more dull. I like my pastries to be softer and fuller of flavor. The tart was good but the crust was so crumbly and dry. It was kind of like eating crusty cardboard. I'd come here for the coffee but I prefer the pastries at places like Alexander's Patisserie.

Yelp
I had very high hopes for this place as I've enjoyed some of their pastries from farmers markets in Palo Alto, but was not impressed with my time here. It was very crowded when I went on a weekend morning, which is not surprising. I can handle a line, but I felt that service here was not moving very effectively or efficiently. Now for the pastries drinks themselves. Coffee was good, but took quite a long time to get out. I tried two types of the rebel within, something I had enjoyed at the farmers market as a special treat, but found that the ones here were not as good. I'm not sure if they're still just figuring things out, but they felt doughy and under baked as well as lacking flavor. The cream puff was tasty but certainly not worth a steep price and long wait.

Yelp
TLDR: would come for coffee and people watching, but not much else. Service and ambience were top notch. I enjoyed the decor and the staff. I hope that they will find a way to move that stupid pendant light blocking the drinks menu so I can read at the register. Food: Oat milk latte is five out of five. Kudos to the barista! Rebel within has always been C&W's premier item, and what brought many folks to love savory muffins. With its jammy egg, it ate like a hardy breakfast, but the rest of the muffin is quite dense. The savoriness of the dough is great however, it needs to be reheated and that's hard to do thoroughly while keeping the egg jammy. The meatball croissant: the meatball was really tough and cold meat does not go well with buttery flaky pastry. It left a greasy, cold fat mouth feel that was not very attractive. Triple chocolate croissant, very good. If I were a chocolate lover, I would order that quite often. The triple chocolate comes from the chocolate croissant dough, the filling, and then the chocolate drizzle on top. The streusel muffin was disappointing. It was too heavy on streusel, so much that it was overbearing. The muffin itself tasted gluten-free, which meant flat (not fluffy) and weirdly moist with not a lot of flavor. I can count the number of berries and fruit chunks in the muffin on one hand. The savory scone with thyme and some other herbs was very good. Would order again and eat, heated. Jalapeño twist was lackluster. I thought it would be better than something I would get from Paris baguette, but it wasn't. The top was washed with simple syrup and then the middle had a very small line of what seemed like jalapeño jam. Even with Parmesan sprinkled on top. The flavor really did not come through.

Yelp
They were busy around lunchtime on a Sunday. But service was very amiable and polite as it took me some time to figure out what I wanted. I originally intended to get a sandwich, but decided to get the lion's head stack instead and it certainly didn't disappoint! I'm not usually a fan of ginger and wood ear, but I totally appreciated the meatball that came with the stack. I would totally eat those meatballs in the more traditional "lion's head" serving. The surrounding croissant was also very flaky and good. Additionally, we ordered the triple chocolate croissant to go, along with a mocha and cold brew. Somehow the rich chocolate flavor in the mocha still ended up being very subtle, but I appreciated the flavor, not overpowering. My partner enjoyed the cold brew. To me, the sourness turned me off a little bit more, but it had a nice kick. I ate the triple chocolate croissant at home, and it was very chocolatey and very flaky. It's too bad inside seating is limited. It was a bit chilly today, and while we luckily did get to sit inside, tables were hard to find. But if I'm ever in the area, would definitely be back for a pastry!

Yelp
I've enjoyed other locations of this spot before but unfortunately, this one was a miss. I tried their famous rebel within and honestly I was not impressed. It lacked flavor and just didn't live up to the hype that every says. I've had this in other locations and it was okay, but honestly it isn't the best. I think it just looks appealing but doesn't live up to the taste. The strawberry peach kouign looked great, but the texture was soggy and not at all flavorful. I thought this would stand out but it didn't. It just looked good but didn't taste good. The triple chocolate croissant was also a miss unfortunately. You would expect something to be decadent but it was underwhelming. For something that look so rich, it ended up surprisingly bland. The staff members were a highlight! They were friendly and nice.

Yelp
Stopped by Caftsman and Wolves for a Sunday morning coffee, I got a latte and a mocha. Both were standard, the coffee beans are on the dark side. I also got their famous lion head and rebel within which were disappointed since they don't warm up your pastries. Imagine eating cold savory pastries lol weirdo! The lion head was flaky but will be better if it was warm. Rebel within is more like a cake texture. Definitely good for togo and enjoy it at home but I don't feel it's a good place to relax and enjoy your coffee and pastries. Also the pastries are on the pricey side. Service was okay and fast!

Yelp
I came here for a morning cappuccino and I was so excited to see they had a couple gluten free pastry options. I tried the gluten-free biscone (cross between a biscuit and scone) and the gluten-free chocolate financier. I loved both! The financier is probably the best gf pastry I've ever tasted, so amazing I'll definitely come back to get it again. Coffee is great as well, and service is quick. Great place for a cup of coffee and pastry.

Yelp
Their coffee is amazing and the pastries are always so good. I come here about once a week, and it's definitely one of my favorite spots. Always a great experience!

Yelp
Pros: 1) Traditional Croissant was 9.7/10, amazing! Buttery, flaky, the right amount of crisp exterior paired with a fluffy interior. If you've ever been to Backhaus, I'd say it's comparable!! 2) Levain Batard (Sourdough Loaf) was 9.5/10 delicious. I had to grab a bite of it right away because I am obsessed with sourdough! It's such a classic loaf with multiple purposes. The crust was a perfect brown and you can see the crumb texture nice and bubbly. 3) Lion Head Stack was 9.7/10, so fun! Think -- gyoza filling meatball on a crispy flaky buttery croissant!! Freakin' delightful! If you want something flavorful and different, you gotta get this one! 4) Honey Lavender Latte was 9.7/10, balanced. This is one of those drinks where it can go from floral to potpourri real quick, but shout out to the barista for making it taste so well balanced!! Cons: 1) Waiting in line was a bit awkward. I hope they set up some sort of rope divider system so that it's easier to line up. The configuration doesn't flow very well because you're sort of waiting diagonally between some seats and the front counter. Minor con, but I find worth mentioning because I wish them a lot of success. Overall: 9.7/10, fantastic and will be back!

Yelp
Sandwiches NOT their forté. Egg salad croissant sand was okay but the cuban and turkey sando leave much to be desired. The sandwich I received had two mismatched pieces of bread and not given the option to toast it. For the price they charge should get real turkey instead of processed market slices. Avocado should also be included. Tip - they tack on $3 per item if you order on their website (to ensure gratuity). Order at the site to save if able.

Yelp
I used to go to San Francisco for craftsman and wolves there, and now it is almost next-door to my home. I always enjoy the coffee and all the pastries. I just tried the seasonal raspberry matcha, its delicious

Yelp
I came here on a holiday and was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to order. The staff was very friendly and attentive, which made the experience even better. The food and coffee were both delicious, and the menu has a wide variety of options to choose from. There's also plenty of space to sit and enjoy your meal, whether you prefer the cozy indoor seating or the relaxing outdoor area.
