David’s Brisket House in Bed-Stuy serves up hearty, juicy deli classics like smokey pastrami and tender brisket with a twist of halal charm.
"The story is now long familiar, how Muslim owners Riyadh and Farouq Gazali took over a Jewish deli in Bed-Stuy and left nearly everything the same. Sandwiches are available in three sizes, and include pastrami, corned beef, and brisket. Best of all and long ascended to legendary status is the brisket with gravy sandwich on a club roll, with the gravy dumped on the meat rather than served on the side." - Caroline Shin

"Located on Nostrand Avenue, David’s Brisket House is one of the only halal Jewish-style delis in the city. It’s been serving halal meat since the 1970s, when Muslim ownership took over the Kosher sandwich shop, keeping the old menu in place. Opt for the caramelized roast brisket sandwich or a corned beef and pastrami combo, on either rye bread or a club roll. Don’t forget to ask for a side of gravy." - Eater Staff
"The best thing at David’s Brisket House isn’t the brisket, it’s the tender, juicy, halal pastrami stacked on seedless rye. The thin, smoky layers melt in your mouth like a Listerine strip, and it’s served on fresh bread and finished off with a slab of mustard and a bunch of pickles on the side. The other meat options are brisket and corned beef, and if you can’t decide between them, go hard with the triple decker sandwich that has all three. Be ready to part with $20 to $30, and grab a booth so you can eat your sandwich open-faced with a fork if you need to. " - neha talreja, nikko duren, bryan kim
"The best thing at David’s Brisket House in Bed-Stuy isn’t the brisket, it’s the tender, juicy, halal pastrami stacked on seedless rye. If you want a taste of every meat on the menu, go for the triple decker pastrami, corned beef, and brisket sandwich. The corned beef and brisket aren’t as flavorful, but pastrami can pick up the slack if you insist on the combo. Our only complaint is the inconsistent slicing. Sometimes you’ll get super thin layers that melt on in your mouth like a Listerine strip, and sometimes it’s thick cuts with no warning. Specify what you want, and be ready to part with $20 to $30. We usually take our stuff to go—the dark and dingy shop kinda feels like a boiler room." - Neha Talreja
